Found out tonight that the AC circuit runs through the factory computer.
I think we figured it out this evening how to bypass the factory computer, which is no longer there., Well the wire gurus poking around in my car figured it out, but this is the first I heard of this.

Anyone running standalone and AC?
Did you keep your idle air speed as well?

 

Bypassed mine a few years back when I went with the MegaSquirt. I think I made a post about it in the MS section. No idle speed air control, still need to add that on to the MS.

Just tie the BLUE/ORANGE and BLUE/WHITE wires together on that plug. I just used a small piece of wire and stuck it in there

this would be one of the plugs that connect to the factory computer. I browsed the standalone section and found others who corrected the problem.

I dont have the car here or I would take a picture of it, but it is obviously one of the plugs that would plug into the computer that have those color wires.

 

I bypassed the ECU when I ran A/C on a Megasquirt. But it's just kind of a lame loss of driveability. The car idles a lot worse without either bumping up the idle (by adjusting the throttlebody screws) or not bypassing the ECU and instead setting up your standalone to idle the car up like the factory computer does.

Your car idles like **** because the idle air speed controller is not hooked up. The wolf has a input for AC, when its triggered it will tell the idle air speed to adjust the mixture and kick up the idle. My plan is to use a idle air speed unit but not have it bolted to the intake manifold because I dont want it on there. When using the factory set up the computer does the same thing.

You should check if your megasquirt can do the same, the answer is not to adjust the idle up higher for the purpose.

Do you have your idle air speed set up or do you just let it idle a little crappy when the ac is on? Still debating if we will do the idle air speed, if its just a lower idle with the ac on I can live with that for the sake of keeping things simpler.

im back in action with AC.

This turned out to be such a huge undertaking.
I wanted ribbed belts so I went with a 3rd gen compressor which does not line up in any way shape or form with the cosmo pulleys that I had to have or the manual steering S4 ac bracket.

I had the ac bracket welded and customized.
Then I needed custom AC lines.
I put a new condensor in, a new dryer, new o-rings, custom line from condensor to dryer.

It passed the leak test when it was charged.
The logicon crapped out in the middle of all this, so that had to be re-soldered.
The wires jumped so the AC button would trigger the compressor.

All this so if I get stuck in traffic I dont sweat like a filthy farm animal, and it makes my wife happy when we dont stick to the seats.

 

did all this plus new rubber hoses. Still no AC. Can you help us all by posting pics if you can...
A write up on just the wiring portion would be HUGE for me, and the community!!

Did you go w/Freeze 12 and how is the performance?

 

I am going to look for these mysterious wires, I will take pics. I am in the middle of moving to a new place though, so don't expect them immediately.

 

I ended up going with 134a, if the condensor craps out on me in the future that is the least of my worries with this car, lol

I blew through 2 cans of freeze12 with the first guy who was doing the charge because he did not know what he was doing. I only let him touch it because the only time he sees me is for my state inspections and I just did some work to his boat so I figured let him get some business out of me. I also believe the compressor I have to be a original 134a unit.

The wires are in the passenger side footwell. After the wiring gurus were probing the wires for a good 2 hours we went home for the night. My logicon had happened to also **** on me that night so we gave up.

My engine builder went with my car the next day to drop it off again for the ac because we were using his friend's shop for the charge and the owner's brother is a electrical genius. He went armed with the information I got about jumping those 2 wires. The wiring guru had figured it out on his own from the wiring schemetics availible from Alldata.

He re-soldered my logicon, jumped the 2 wires and low and behold my compressor kicks on with the AC button on the dash now.

You need to know that all your relays are operating, I believe there to be at least 2 of them. Your logicon must also be working. Dont take it for granted that because some of it works that its all working, my AC button was not engaging the compressor anymore due to factory solder that had gone bad.

I will see if I can get a picture of the plug in the passenger side footwell, but its easy to find especially if you removed your factory computer. If your factory computer is still there you need to go over all the other basics of the system, which is ALOT more complicated then you would think for a 20 year old car.

I also put a new pressure switch in when I was replacing all the components. Everything is now new.

I have not driven it yet with the cooling so far, im barely running a street tunebecause I just upgraded my Wolf to a V500. We wanted to tune the car with the ac working.

 

I am gonna resurrect this real quick.

Are the wires located in the same clip as the windshield wiper wires?

Where did you get a new pressure sensor? How much?

any auto parts store will have the switch.
I cannot help you on the wiper part, remember my factory engine harness had the wiper harness in it also, and the factory harness and the computer is not there.

 

What I meant was, since the wiper wire ran through the stock ecu/harness, you had to go in there and re-wire to get your wipers to work. Right?

Was the AC wire in the same bunch?
