Stand Alone

Is it still possible to run the heat core with a stand alone? Or would i still need to keep the stock ecu for the heater core?

If you are referring to the logicon, it is independent from the ECU. Only problem would be the AC compressor is run through the ECU so that it can be disengaged when the engine is under high loads. There are different solutions depending on if your car is an S4 or S5 so search around, I know its there.

I'm gonna guess you stripped out the wiper motor/ cruise control subharness. Its completely separate from the ECU harness, but it is taped together with it.

So tell me about the Motec please. I'm about to drop *cough* on an M800. How is everything thus far?

I don't think the harness would be routed through the Motec.... parrallel (i hate sp) with the engine harness maybe?

FWIW - a buddy had Microtech and had nothing but bad things to say. Went Rtek instead and loves it. Sadly Rtek won't do it for me

Far as I know.

All this happened before I met him. He told me he was pissed, microtech was worthless for support, no-one local to help him out, couldn't even get the ***** fired. Got so angry sold the whole kit n' caboodle, bought a brandy new TII harness & Rtek and life has been grand. I'm trying to convince him to go Haltech or Motec and get some real tuning done. I think his goals warrant it, but at the same time I can completely understand his hesitations. He wants reliability first and foremost. I'll be the guinnea pig gladly. I made a bunch of really knowledgable friends so we'll see how it goes.

If we're talking about a US-spec Turbo II model, amazing most of the auxiliary functions are independent of the stock ECU.

True that the wipers, water temp (and boost gauge) functions are run through the stock engine wiring harness, but it is very easy to rewire them to work correctly.
The water temp sensor is just one wire.
The wipers are like 4 wires.
I rewire them for Haltech installs all the time.
(If you want to keep the stock boost gauge working, you need to wire up the stock boost sensor, which might be pain in the *** due to the +5VDC reference.)

Heater / AC functions are independent of the stock ECU.
Cruise control functions are independent of the stock ECU.
If you got power steering, it is independent of the stock ECU.

i really like the motec so far. everything seems to read well (gauges/sensors)
and it is compadible with whatever I hook up to it.

The guys at Motec are pretty cool, and will walk through any problems with you. I had an issue setting the map sensor, and they were real helpful.

The M2R is really perfect for me. You CANT run a three rotor or a 4 banger, it's 2 rotor or nothing. But I am fine with that, I never plan on going three rotor.

I will also be using it to run methanol. It can take reading from my EGT, with the addition of a little $40 module. Reads the wideband... all around really solid ecu.

It also has a cold/warm start assist. We havent really got the hang of that yet, so my start up is still a little strange... but we havent really tried messing with it too much.

You can read up on it somemore here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15

or I have am Official MOTEC thread in the Engine management area.

RETed, I am sure it's easy to re-wire, I've been lazy and live in the desert... LOL
