Stage 1 street port
Stage 1 street port
I have a 1986 Rx-7 that I recently bought. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt 19,000 miles ago, and as I read down the list of parts the mechanic changed, it list something about a stage 1 street port. So far Ive managed to understand my car has 6 ports, and only uses 4 of them under 3500 rpm's and switches to 6 above that. What is a stage 1 street port?
basically it allows more air and fuel to enter the engine during combustion by making your existing ports larger. if its a stage one, you'll probably see about a 10% power increase over stock. i had this done to my car and i think it really helped my low end a lot. also, on a side note, it makes your exhaust louder
i really dont know the technicals about it, but that should answer your question.

What is your idea of a full exaust and better intake? I might already have an appropriate exaust and intake. I just bought the car, and other than knowing that the engine is a rebuild and that the overall condition of the car is good, I dont know if my exaust is still stock or if the previous owner got a good aftermarket put on it. I would have asked the previous owner but he is stationed in guam and had a friend sell the car to me.

When builders describe their ports as "stage whatever", they are doing a disservice to everyone. It's impossible to compare the "stage 1" port of one builder to the "stage 1" port of another builder. One builder's stage 1 might be another builder's stage 3, and so forth.
So it's hard to say exactly how much the engine is ported, if at all (sometimes builders just polish the ports which is basically useless).
A better intake will mean a cone filter with a proper cold air box. Don't expect massive power gains with this.
Full exhaust generally means headers and a good catback.
