Speedometer stopped working

The other day my speedometer/odometer stopped working. All other gauges and dummy lights still work..

Anyone know what this could be?

Also, I think it could be related to when i adjusted the TPS. I noticed a wire coming out of the firewall with a rubber surrounding, which was cracked. Since it was cracked, i examened it and pulled it a little. i think this might have messed up the speedo cable
Stupid me..

Is this repairable?

oh ya....well the rubber hose around the actual speedo cable is just a shield, if the cable itself is bent or twisted it wont give readings.

as long as the actually speedo cable is not cracked or bent it should be fine till you can get a new one.

It's odd that BOTH the speedo and tach went out... I'm pretty sure that mechanical cable is JUST for the speedo.... I drove around for a few days with it out as I was trying new cluster overlays, and I remember having to judge my speed based on tach...

Hey, i'm an idiot...you said speedo/ODO, not speedo/tach... nevermind!

Yeah, it's prolly the cable... the other end goes to the tranny--it could be loose there too.. easier to check that than the cluster (BIG PITA).

deffinately the speedo cable. it's a matched set and i recomend getting the part at the dealer of mazdatrix if they sell it and try not to mess up the connecting ends because you will need to reuse it with the factory unit. it's realy not that hard to install 1st time took me 1 hr to get it all in and back together 2nd time took me 45 min third time 20 min it wasn't pretty but i'm damn fast about it now!
