Speedometer Help Needed

I just did a tranny swap in my fc and now i dont have a speedo. I checked the cable and it was hooked up. I still have a working odometer. there may have been one wire on the tranny that i didnt hook back up, would that be the problem?

Does the speedometer and odometer run off the same line?

Thanks
---James

Yes, they are both on the same cable. If odometer works and the speedo does not, then you have a bad speedometer.

In the transmission, not the gauge right?

Path is :
Transmission to speedo gear to speedo cable, to speedometer.

Then in the Speedometer assembly the input from the speedo-cable has a worm gear that splits off to the three odometers (main display, resetable, and hidden/20K miles switch)

So again, if any odometer is working, but the speedometer is not, then the problem is in the speedometer assembly.

Would there be a reason that it would just stop working one night, well the night i did a tranny swap?

It has always been fine before. I have and extra gauge cluster that i can try this weekend. i just dont understand why my speedo would just stop. :/

Well, again, if the odometer is still working, that pretty much confirms that the speedo cable is hooked up, even if the speedo itself is not working.

So are you sure that any of the Odometers are really working???

yes. They still count the miles just find. I always use it to check my MPGs on trips to to and from school. And still.. the speedo lays flat.
