speedo and odo not working!!

so after swapping out the engine, and having my mechanic do some tranny work, the speedometer and odometer dont work. i took apart my cluster and everything is plugged in. my next door neighbor said theres a plug or something that might go to the tranny that tells the speedometer how fast im going.. i was thinking a fuse, but i dunno. let me know what u guys think it is... thanks

It runs out from the firewall on the driver's down to the tranny. You will see it - black plastic bending down under the car. Is your car a manual or automatic?

on the drivetrain side its midsection on the tranny, forgot which side, but you can get it from under the car. Where it connects to your speedo its, yeap, you guessed it on the back of the speedo, lil harder to get at. I think if you search you will find info on how to get at the speedo side, its been asked a few times

yeah, the cable goes to a spot near the back of the tranny. You may have to take apart the dash to get to the guage if that's where it broke.

when you disconnect it from the tranny spin the cable and have someone look at the m.p.h. to see if it is not broken in the middle somewhere .........good luck

Pretty easy to find-- im doing a tranny swap. The spedo cable is right before the driveshaft slides into the tranny. Its maybe 2-3 inches. Shouldb't be covered by a heat shield, though mine was-- by a makeshift undercover.

Funny story about Speedo's and odo, we were driving to the local mountain in my buddies jeep liberty, and the speedo would constantly jump from 0-200km and would be all over the map, all the emergency lights were on yet there was nothing wrong with the engine "the numerous times we pulled over to check it quickly" the best part about it was a 150km trip read only 5 km on the ODO. The wiring harness was out i geuss, but seeing as everyones already told you i thought id just share a story lol

You can actually get to it if you get under the dash and reach your hand back up in there. Well.. unless you have big hands.. lol
