Speedo not working. Dragging wire.

As I was leaving cars and coffee about half an hour ago I noticed that my speedo wasn't working. I was worried and slowed down to a crawl as soon as I noticed. I got out and looked under my car to find a cable dragging the ground.

Something came off and rolled away I guess.
Is it okay to drive my car the 2-3 miles back to my house as Long as I use some cord/string to hold the cylinder off the ground?

And what fell off. How do I fix it. And how much will it cost.

Fast responses appreciated.

As long as the end is fine you could probably just lie on the ground and screw it back into the tranny.

I ripped mine out on the cluster side and dragged it on the ground. I feel your pain. It's definitely a scary experience if it's never happened before.
