speedo not working

speedo not working

my speedometer is not working iv checked the speedo its self and the cable and also made sure that everything was pluged in tight. i started to check the gear assembly in the transmision but when i went to pull it out oil started to flow so i put it back in any suggetions as to what it could be would be helpfull thanks guys

Your speedo cable has like a spring wire inside that hooks into the tranny. Id drain your tranny fluid and then unplug the speedo cable and replace the cable. Only due this if you have never changed your tranny fluid, then buy a new speedo cable for $25 shipped off ebay and make sure its plugged in behind the cluster. More then likely your cable just went bad. While your at it id check the rear tranny seal and put amsoil back into the tranny.

dude, you can get a whole new complete cable assembly from napa for less than $20. i replaced mine on my 10AE without a problem. make sure you have a good center section before you go replacing the cable. pull the cluster and check for a good tight connection there.

damn mazdatrix ripped me off, i paid mad $$ for my speedo cable =(

jason, check napa's website and you'll find the cable. its not an oem cable and it doesnt have the firewall grommet but it's a third of the price!

iv checked the cable and the spring inside of the black sleeve it is good its not the cable im thinking that it is the gear drive assembly in the trans and im wondering if there is a way to check this before i go buy a new one. has anyone ever heard of many gear drives going out?

My gear in the tranny went out. Just drain the oil and yank the cable out to look at the gear, its plastic, you'll know if its bad.
