Question Speedo Cable Q?

I've heard from someone that the speedo cable plugs a whole which will leak all the transmission fluid out of the tranny if the cable isn't on, is this true? My speedo cable has been disconnected for a week and I'm thinking I've brutaly raped my transmission if it is.

If you pull out the end of it that is in the transmission, then yes, you will have a big, gaping hole that has let out all of your fluid. If it was disconnected from the cluster end, then no worries.

I'm assuming you are not the one who disconnected it. If you did and there was fluid in the tranny, then you would have noticed it "gushing" out.

Either way, put the cable back in, refill the fluid and keep your fingers crossed. You might get lucky. g/l

Hmm, that's interesting. I drove with it out for a while and it didn't appear to leak. Then I had the outside of the cable screwed into it, but with no little cable. I'll have to check my fluid level.

Get a new cable, GOD didn't disconnected it. The cable broke at some point, but the terminal end on the tranny was still connected and spinning, that's how it got disconnected

I know my explanation is not the best, but trust me.......Unless somebody mess with it

Are there any options for me until I get anew cable, like some sort of a capper so my transmissionfluid doesn't just leak out so I can still drive the car until I can order in anew one, no one in this dinky lil town will stock a 14 year old cars speedo cable... I noticed that there was no wire inside my speedo cable, and that i twould not thread back on because it was all busted, is my only option to not drive the car until I get anew cable?

Sorry. I am about the biggest idiot. If it's just the cable disconnected, it shouldn't leak...unless your rubber o-rings are already shot. I recently had the whole assembly out and that is what I was thinking about. Sorry about any unnecessary worry I caused. I will shutup now.

my cable fell off like a month ago and then it leaked a whole bunch of tranny fluid out but it didnt make a difference. it didnt grind any gears or nuffin... i measured it and it was still the same and i took the shifter off and it was the same... then i found out the inside of my cable came out the alambric part... and then i had to convert another's mazda alambric cable into it.. long story.... but dont u get tired of the ringing noise it makes when the metal piece of the tranny cable hits the floor?

Oh My Deer God! You Evil Evil bastard! I just spent $10 bux that coulda been gas money on gear oil! I feel so cheated!@$@
I knew the haynes manual didn't mention anything about transmission fluid when I read the part about the speedo cable for a reason :P
On the up side my moon roof opens and closes with alittle more ease now, I just have to give it a hit on the way up and a hit at a certain point on the way in instead of sticking my hand out the window and pushing it, guess thats a tradeoff

When I last had my car jacked up, when I discovered that the clanking noise on the ground was indeed the speedo cable which happen to have a the inner part missing so it was quite fucked, I zip tied it off to some of the other cables, brake hoses is my guess as to what they were... When I first heard the noise I thought it was the transmission making an odd noise at random times... which REALLY worried me.. but what worried me even more at the time was that a heater hose got a crack in it at the EXACT same time I started noticing the sound... Image this... huge gusts of "smoke" steaming out from your engine bay, while you hear an odd clicking sound comming from ABOUT where your transmission is, now that was the worst moment of my rotary life... but now that I know all is good I'm feeling MUCH bettar
