Spark Plug Wires

I need a new set to replace my 15 year old NGK's

I need something I can buy from a local store, not looking to order form the States.

Thanks

Will I feel any slight noticeable difference with new plug wires?

I just got some 8mm Accel wires from the local auto parts store, for under $30. Can't beat that with a stick.

NO NO NO! Do not get those bastard wires! Mine kept popping off the coils! The boots were too small. Just get more NGK's. Stock wires are pretty good, if you dont want to order from here.

Accels suck.... i had those in my car from the previous owner, when i went to pull the wires off the plug to change them the boost fell of and into my hands and the clips inside the boost were stuck on the spark plug... they wre the red accel 8 mm wire.

Get NGK, much better.

Or if you have $$$$ to burn, get racing beat 10 mm... those have lifetime warrenty.

If you want Spark Plug Wires that will last the lifetime of your FC, than I would recommend Racing Beat's Ultra Hot Wires.

They look sweet and their Is no way they will pop off the coils. In fact, you practically have to pry them off!

Excellent wires! I am very happy with them. A little on the expensive side though...

Undecided

Hmm, no accell's for me then. Is there anything else I can buy from a parts store besides NGK or accell's?

I got a feeling I'm going to go with new NGK's

Are there different kinds of NGK's I can buy and which ones are the best?

Thanks

Big Wankler,

All NGK wires are the same. Well with respect to the construction etc... just diff lengths...

Go get them from your mazda dealership they are the same price as can tire... and the ones from the dealer have a little plastic hose over the wires to prevent them from being frayed by wiggling around.

Plus you can sometimes lower the price when at the dealer by saying.... can i get a better deal with cash?

what is the ohms or resistance on them?

I heard the lower the better?

The accell ones I know got 300 which is good, but if the quality is that bad I'll pass. What is the resistance on the NGK's?

I dont know what you guys are bitching about, I have the Accel 8.8s and they rock. They are tricky to get to stay on the coils for about 5 minutes, then they stayed. Hell, heat them up with a lighter or something then pu them on the coils. $45....

Ohms = resistance
Therefore the lower the resistance the more power goes to your engine meaning a better combustion etc etc etc. Accel are 150 Ohms and they work just fine installed them last night, even cut down on the missing at idle.

Where did i get that idea? i always do that.
As long as you don't get a ***** at the counter they usualy give you 10% or more.

Ford dealership on erinmill parkway and battleford in mississauga give me like 25% or more.

Brampton mazda is good place to go, all those little garages get parts from dealer and they DO NOT pay retail prices... and neither should u.

Also be wary of some mazda dealerships i've heard that there are some selling aftermarket non OEM parts in mazda boxes that are sub par in quality.

when u take the part off your car compare and u can easily tell.

I just tested my 12 year old stock wire resistance :

T1: 12.43 Kohm
T2 : 13.34 Kohm

L1: 17.23 Kohm
L2: 18.02 Kohm

Is it normal for plug wires to have such high resistance??

Would I actually feel any increase of power with a new set of stock wires? Would gas mileage go up? Anyone konw the resistance on some new stock wires?

THANKS

But what's the resistance in ohms of brand new NGK's?

Is the resistance better than the accell's?

Is there any other brand that you can pick up from a local parts store besides the NGK's or accell's?

Thanks

Yes! I felt a noticeable increase in power, I have also noticed a bit better gas milage (1-2 mpg) 150 Ohms on new accels, your resistance is way to much. Just changed my stock 1991 wires 2 or 3 days ago. Do it!

Don't be a weenie with your wankle . No, get NGK's if you want stock, or accel if you want the good stuff Both should be under $30.00 or you are paying too much.

Plug wires should be replaced every 60K miles.

The yellow Accell wires are fine using that rule. If your are past 60K miles on the old ones, then yes new plug wires will give you the impression of more HP (when actually your just running the way you're supposed too).

I have used NGK's, they seem to work fine. I just ordered some Jacobs high density silicone wires, i believe they are 8.5mm.

The Magnecors are generally pretty good, and the racing beats are also good.

Racing Beat does not make those wires. Those are Ultras. I have them on my Probe. They are VERY good wires, extremley good quality. But spendy. The set on my Probe must be worth over $250 (they came on my JDM motor ). Pretty sure those are made in Japan.

I'm personally not a Magnecore fan. The guys are kinda personality less. Heard lots of things about them coming apart and not worth the trouble.

And NGK's, never can go wrong w/ them. They are pretty much stock however. We all know performance wires don't do all that much.

I was thinking about going w/ MSD. They have been making stuff for quite some time now. Anyone heard anything about those wires? I never hear of any one talk about them.

Ok, i just measured out the stock plug wire lengths.

Leadings : 37 inches
Trailings: 24 inches

Your STOCK resistance SHOULD be as follows, this is a good way to judge wire condition:

Leadings : 15.41 Kohms
Trailings : 10.00 Kohms

Looks like it's time for me to get some new wires (mine are 12 years old, they even say "1989" on them!) I guess I'll go with the ol' NGK stockers .

So the stock ones have around 15000 ohms of resistance? Isn't that horrible? Why would you buy the NGK stock ones?

Anyone got the resistance measured on their own of the Accell's?

The FSM says that the stock wires are 16kohms/meter of wire. The accels are SPIRAL coil, meaning that, yes they will have a low resistance, but they are still very crappy in build quality and and spark quality. That way they can advertise "low resistance" and get lots of customers. People misreading information always sells, just look at the TORNADO "natural supercharger ."

Ultra, Magnacore, Jacobs, etc.. do not use the shitty misleading spiral design.

The ULTRA wires by racing beat are VERY VERY good wires.... with 5K-6Kohms resistance...
