Spark issue making me crazy

Whats going on guys. Ive been trying to track down my spark issue for about a week now. A little background...

88 chassis
87 engine
stock T2 electronics

When I crank the car I get nothing on the tach.

When the key is to "ON" I hear the fuel pump.

With key to "ON" and probing both sides of the 2 pin conn. at the main relay I get no power, but if I probe the power side of the connector and then take my other probe to a chassis ground I get 12 volts. This makes me think I have a bad ground coming out of the relay.

I broke down, sanded, cleaned and redid all my engine bay grounds. Tested for continuity between them all. They all check out perfect.

I also get no power at the b/w on the emission soleniod with the key to on.

So after the ground leaves the Main Relay where does it terminate? Everything seems fine up untill that point.

Thanks in advance.........

The Black wire in the 2 wire plug grounds at a spot with other grounds and it's located next to and below the trailing coil (see pic below). Check and or redo this group ground.

The B/W wire will not have voltage w/key to on if the main relay doesn't work and it won't w/o the Black wire being grounded properly.

Note: just don't reground the single Black wire somewhere else to fix the problem because the other grounds that are in the same grounding connector might not be grounding out properly and it would cause other issues as well.

This the grounding connector.

yea I dont wanna band-aid it by just running another ground. This ground group you speak of, does it have a connector of any type? I dont remember seeing a "group ground". I did find a small black square box with and eyehole connector that I grounded but that didnt help.

It's 5 ground wires in a 6 pin plug.

It was that group ground on the chassis. I must have missed it when I painted the engine bay. I popped it off cleaned it up and she has great spark now. Thanks alot satch, I really appreciate it.

That's great news. It was actually an easy diagnosis and an easy fix. I just wish all electrical problems were that easy to remedy.
