Sometimes hard to get into reverse?

Im looking at an rx7, but the owner says that sometimes its hard to get into reverse. Is there anyway to fix this, or does it need a whole new tranny?

Synchro is probably going out. You could try some redline tranny fluid. Dont worry if it drops a tranny, theyre not too expensive, well a used one off here anyway. Is it turbo or not?

my turbo tranny sometimes grinds into reverse.. it might be the syncro or it could be the clutch not engaging all the way.

It seems my clutch is slipping as well, 1st gear... hit boost, pulls to like 5.5 and then feels like it dies at about 6.5, in which point i shift to 2nd..

probably normal though since it is a stock except for a air intake.

row it through the gears and try again, or 1st and let out a little bit and then try R

If the synchro is off, does that mean the tranny is shot?

The things that allow you to change gears without the tranny grinding. My tranny on my truck used to grind, but if I put it into first before reverse I never have the problem.

Since new, every once in a while after I start it and try to back out of the garage, I need to put it in 1st, let the clutch out slightly, then it'll go into reverse ok. Nothing wrong with clutch or trans.

There is no syncro for reverse. Shame shame for those that made up the answer "the syncro is going or bad". There is a syncro for the 5th/reverse hub assembly, but it is not related to the actual reverse gear operation.

Lift the clutch in neutral, press it back in, then slide it into reverse.

And make sure the car isn't moving.

I always drop into second to line it up before snicking it into reverse. Every vehicle I drive (I own 5 standard shift cars). If I am not mistaken, there is either a much reduced or no synchonizer on the reverse gear of just about any manual transmission?
