Something is wrong need your help

I was driving came to a stop light then my car die out on me and i couldn't start it back up, i notice that the temp gauge was off the chart, i got scared and sat at the stop light for 20 min, after 20 min i started it up and drove it back which is like 1 min away from that stop light, so i was able to drive home thank goodness, when i went to pop the hood i notice there a crack where the upper radiator hose connect to, BTW i just had my new radiator install, so can you tell me what this is so i can get it replace.

Thank You

thats the neck for the water pump

if I were you, after having overheated the car, I would check for bubbles in the coolant system before you even start replacing parts. You might have blown a coolant seal in the engine as a result of the temperature.

Start the car (stone cold) and check the overflow resevoir, if coolant is PISSING out, you probably have a blown coolant seal.

huh....really, when my car was running, the resevoir did that everytime I drive it, I had to constantly add coolant, so that means I had a blown coolant seal? how does that work?
thanks for the info, sorry to steal thread kinda....

The compression from the motor (especially before there has been no exapnsion in the motor from engine temp) will push the coolant out, instead of where its supposed to go.......another tell tale sign is constant water bubbles in the coolant system.......or a sweet smell in the exhaust, coupled with rapid, constant loss of coolant.

thats a 89-91 ''series 5'' thermostat housing neck. It sounds like if you did not drive the car a long ways then you might still be safe. I would recommend going to your nearest salvage yard and getting one if you can. Also you probably wanna go ahead and get a new thermostat.

But before you take your existing one off, be very careful when you loosen the 2 bolts that hold it on. They tend to snap due to high temp exposure. Use some wd40 or something similar to help loosen the bolts.

You do not wanna break those babies because then you have to tap them out and it is a pain in the *** not to mention very dangerous. YOu could potentially get shavings in the water and then you will be doomed.

BTW i have had many 7's that spewed a little water into the overflow and it wasnt a indication that my coolent seals were bad. The most tell-tale sign in my personal opinion would be to watch the coolant level and to smell for a burnt coolant smell from the exhaust.

Another would be to look for a good amount of white chalky looking smoke upon start up.

Ps. do not getthe neck with the cap on it. YOu need the one without it.
