damage inside an S5 NA exhaust header

So here's a picture of a pipe inside my S5 NA exhaust header. I took it off to install the racing beat header. What is this pipe and should it look like that? It leads to a hole just under one of the exhaust ports.

And for fun, here's a picture of the presilencer w/ cat pipe from rx7.com and a stock S5 NA header, beside a racing beat header and presilencer.

The only thing I could think of is that that's the aux ports exhaust pressure tube, but the S5 doesn't work like that.

Racing Beat looks like they changed their design of the headers just a bit.

i never could figure out the purpose of it but most series have them, it meets up with the flow of the EGR passages in the irons/rotors housings. the damage is fairly normal, the pipes tend to mushroom and flake due to the high temperatures of these engines. mine was similar to that on my T2 so i ground the pipe flush and eliminated the EGR, problem solved. my best guess is it is an additional thermal duct to warm up the engine faster.
