i was driving home from school and i thought what the hell ill go drive by the beach just for *****, half way there the engine was losing power the more i pressed the peddle the more it just sat around 3- 3500 rpms and it wasnt goin anywhere i've never experienced this before it it was the most depressing thing ever putting down pch with my hazards on..... im soo upset

 

well if you want help you are going to have to be A LOT more specific! What year? Did you throw a CEL? Is it turbo or N/A? Were you just crusing or were you driving duke of hazzard style?

 

so it's dead? or is there more to this?? what are you looking for here? i don't know what else to say right now.

 

i dont its not dead it still starts and goes but acts real weird around 40mph kinda bogs out and doesnt get hardly any power as if i was gently pressing the gas when i was flooring it i think its a throttle problem but wasnt driving fast at all i was goin the speed limit its a 90 gxl n/a i dont know what a CEL is. I feel dumb as hell

 

Is the check Engine light (CEL) pulsing or solid?? When you floor it does it buck??

well it sounds like you've gone into limp mode..... check to see what the CEL is there for, my guess is that your OMP (Oil Metering Pump) has gone out. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNLESS YOU PREMIX UNTIL YOU CONFIRM THIS!!! Premixing is adding two-stroke motor oil into your gas tank when you fill up, one ounce per gallon of gas. Unless you do this, you WILL RUIN YOUR ENGINE. Search on these topics if you need more info.

 

Sorry to sound like it's the end of the world for ya, it could be something less disastrous, but you need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best IMO.

 

OH **** no one told me you had to premix gas for this car

 

sounds like what happened to me when my alternator died on me when i was driving on the highway..the more i pressed on the peddal the more it bogged out, and the idiot lights started to flicker and dim.

 

well im def taking it to the shop 2marro but im gonna have to make it to skool 1st...and i cant put oil in it i would let it sit there but i have to move my car before 8 am cuz of road sweeping bs omfg this sux i prolly wont be able to afford repairs...

 

I wouldn't take it to a shop unless it's the last possible option. You can check what code the light is on for, if you serach you'll find the process to do this. If you give it more the 15% throttle and it pops and sputters you're in limp mode. Like they've said more than likely it's an OMP failure which is common and an easy fix. I wouldn't drive it too much or the OMP code will take the ECU with it and you'll need to replace the ECU

 

you dont HAVE to premix gas for this car UNLESS your OMP is out. Did ALL the warning lights come on? Or just the Check Engine Light? All the lights, then I'd say it is the alternator as mentioned above, just the Check Engine Light then the car is still driveable, you are just going to have to premix the fuel until you can get it to a shop to make repairs. Get to a gas station, put some oil in the tank (with fuel of course, and try to adjust the oil amount to reflect an estimate of how much gas is in the tank already [remember one ounce to the gallon]) and just drive it. The next time it bogs down ( i bet it is about once every ten minutes ) pull over, turn her off, wait ten seconds then start her up and get going again... in fact if it's a stick you don't even have to pull over.

ya its just the check engine light i am definitely stayin on the safe side and mixing the gas put its soo hard to drive with my car acting like this in huntington beach theres cars and people and **** everywhere

 

is that because most shops cant deal with rotaries? if thats the case ill order the part i guess is it that easy to fix

 

whats the best way to narrow down a problem in a rx7 i would hate to replace something that doesnt need to be

Yes, most shops have no clue how to work on rotaries, so I recommend learning how to do it yourself, it is fun, rewarding, and gets you closer to your car! As far as narrowing down problems, luckily you own an s5... so the CEL is your friend in that aspect, but it's not foolproof. My advice would just be to read up as much as you can on this site, check the FAQ's and search search search, EVERY problem has been covered before, welcome to the forum and I hope you get everything straightened out!

 

i have never messed with an ECU in my life and dont you need a tool for that

 

hell ya man gonna figure this **** out thas what i wanted to do in the first place it might be a lil fucked up now but fc's are worth it when theyre running!

search NOPI, Summit or loca hardware shop for compression tester or, as you can read in the thread I found via search, you can go to a MAZDA dealership and have them test it for you and ask to be present (don't trust them).

Rule out the worst case scenario first. That way you're either relieved or you saved yourself the time of checking other things.

 

Never hurts to check compression but that certainly isn't the case here. Search on how to read the check engine light. You will need a jumper wire under the hood. Only basic tools are required i.e. wratchet and sockets. Like we've all said and it can't be stressed enough, just search search search until your little heart is content
