Someone forgot to tell my car that these drivetrains are tough!
I haven't dynoed it yet and have no idea what kinda power it makes, but...
Last week at the track i broke an axle (first time to the track) (actually the output shaft ont he diff that connects to the axle)... Now today I broke 5th gear in the trans (1-2-3-4 still work). I'm swapping in a spare S4 TII trans tomorrow, but I wonder how long it'll last?

Thats usually the first sign of making real power...
That or your stuff is old and on its way out
heh

the axle is relative to what i said in your previous thread, the carrier can only take so many 400+RWHP launches before it needs to be upgraded.
the tranny is fine, you just can't mis-shift into fifth from second, the RPM spread is far too great to take the abuse, if you saw the fifth gear syncro you would understand why they tend to break when a mis-shift happens.

Stop pissing around and call a driveline shop.
They can set you up with stronger axels AND properly rebuild the transmission. Lets face it, no matter how strong TII transmissions are, they are all OLD and worn. J-spec units are always questionable and a transmission rebuild is not horribly expensive ($600 to rebuild my NA unit and then had to replace the input shaft, cluster shaft, seals, bearings, etc.).

well i think the price of a tranny rebuild is dependent, to fully rebuild the transmission is shy of $500 in parts alone from the dealer, the fifth gear syncro has been updated from mazda to a bronze collar rather than brass so it should be a little more durable and handle mis-shifts a little better but the syncros alone from mazda are over $300US
there is some companies out there that make aftermarket kits but you really need to be weary of aftermarket rebuild kits when dealing with high performance since the syncros will be taking a lot of abuse.
no matter what people say about these trannies and diffs they were far over-built. i mean they have taken a beating from 400+RWHP cars and 5-6KRPM launches, give the components some slack since they were originally equipped in a 160RWHP car...
