I've got some rust around the rocker panels, under the doors. This camera does seem to make everything look much worse than it does in person but heres an idea of what I'm dealing with. It seems like the area that rusted through is thin sheet metal. If you were to put your hand up in that hole you would see that it opens up into a hollow area surrounded by thicker guage walls. I could por 15 the whole area and prob stop most of the rusting but I was thinkin about cutting off the rusted part of the rail and weld in some square tubing to act like Subframe connectors, and also run some square tubing the length of the frame rails to stiffen them up as well.

I dont really care about rust in terms of asthetics just as long as it doesnt effect structural integrity. This is a race car

I drilled in a sheet of metal over the hole so no water can get in. Its tight so it'll keep most of the air out. The metal looks nicer but rust is basically unstoppable unless you cut out a lot and even if you do you'll probably miss a small area and from there it spreads like cancer again. If you check my posted msg I also posted something about exterior rust.

Well.. if you love your 7 that much and plan on keeping it for a long long time... you can media blast the ******!! strip the whole car down and bring it to a shop that does media blasting. they will put the car on a rotisserie so they can move it around to make sure they wont miss an inch of it. that will remove everything including paint and every last bit of rust. but its not worth it

well I've got a sand blasting attachment for my air compressor which is why I'm not worried about the little hole in the floor boards on the other side. The problem with this rust is I cant really get at it that well, because it created a hole that opens up into this empty cavity its hard to get up in there and make sure all the rust is treated.
I was thinking about trying to completly flood the cavity with some por 15 type paint but the por stuff requires that you treat the surface first where as I think there are other options that you can just coat a rusty surface with it and it will stop the rust. I would just pour that paint down into the cavity and try to cover as much surface area with it as humanly possible.

CUT out the rust, and weld in fresh sheet metal. Covering over it will just continue to let it rust underneath. If you've never done this kind of work before your in for a big job and in that case it's best to find someone with experience. There are a lot of tricks to doing this properly, which may even include going to the wreckers and cutting out a replacement section of the car to swap onto yours.
