Solid motor / trans mounts: first opinions
Well, just installed the solid motor and trans mounts from www.scalliwag.com, and all I can say is wow. It's impressive how much better engine response is, but it's also impressive how much more noise and vibration comes into the chassis now. I also now have a bad vibration from the heat shields that surround the catylitic converters that have started melting their welds. The engine and trans noise transmitted to the car could be irritating for some, but I actually like being able to not just hear but actually feel the drivetrane better. Starting it up was interesting the first time: It began with a frantic search for where the big hole in the floor board was. The noise from the starter alone is dramatically increased, and the engine actually runs smoother now, but is also louder in the vehicle chassis and drivers compartment.
Overall, I'd say that this mod is not for the weak of heart. Spend the extra money on the polyurethane mounts from banzai racing to keep the interior of the car quiet and vibration down if it's not a track car with some street use. I know that my engine isn't running right, mostly my fault for not spending the time to actually go through and find the damn vacuum leak that has been in the car since I got it, so if I get the engine running 100%, I'm sure the vibration would go down substantially. If you're a performance over comfort nut like myself, you'll most definatley will not be disappointed with this upgrade.
Next on the list, solid subframe, diff, and front diff mounts (so long as I can find a manufacturer that offers them at a reasonable price like scalliwag does, he already offers the front diff mount at a very good price). Honestly, I'd make them myself, but with time constraints and the price of aluminum around my neck of the woods, lets just say that it was the same price for the final product from scalliwag as it would've been for me to buy the stock to make them with in my area.
Additionally, I'd like to thank scalliwag himself for making quality parts like this. They come with hardware and all, so it's well worth it. Overall no complaints against his quality parts and great prices

Okay, drove the car more today and after getting used to the noise, the dramatically improved throttle response makes it all worth while. Also, I don't know why, but I seem to be able to corner better!? WTF mates? Now I go through corners I did in 1st in 2nd, makes little to no sense! Also, seems like the car is more firmly planted around corners. Maybe I'm just loosing it, though.
