Got me another one, since the wife killed the other one.
Well, I bought another FC. The wife was driving the 89 GTU when a Jeep slid into it. The insurance company totaled the car out. They told me to pick up the car and go to their office to get the check. The damage was estimated at $1700 before paint. That car had a S4 reman that I adapted to fit in the S5 chassis. The paint was bad but the interior was beautiful. I will be getting rid of, or parting it out soon.
The new car. I bought an 89 GXL that has only 52,000 miles recently. It has no engine and an automatic transmission. I plan to take the good motor and trans from the wrecked car and swap it into the new one. The interior isn't quite as nice, but the rest of the car is pretty nice. It has a fairly new paintjob of "Noble White"
Now for a question to the electrical gurus. What is involved/is it feasible to remove the tachometer from the wrecked car (8000 redline) and put it in the insturment cluster of the new (to me) car? I don't want the lights/7000 redline automatic tachometer when I switch it to a manual.
While the engine is out, should I cosider porting/gasket matching the intake manifolds? How much would I benifit? Keep in mind I have S5 externals on a S4 shortblock. I am not planning on any major engine modifications with this engine. Just reliability mods. I intend on swapping in a turbo engine, ECU, wiring and drivetrain as I find the parts reasonably priced. Here is the car.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The tachs will swap right out, but you will need to use the cluster harness from the gauge cluster that the tach came from. Where there will be an issue is with the auto tranny cluster hook up.
It would probably be easier to just swap speedos, and cluster harnesses and use the old cluster with newer speedo. Then you don't have to worry about wiring.
Port matching the intake runners would be a manditory job if you have engine out. The differences will be noticeable.

I washed out the engine bay, the car itself, and started working on the car from the back to the front. I wired and re-installed the tail lights. Pics to come soon.

Well, the bumper cover is damaged, the bumper itself is not. It was almost a head on collision. Since I am getting PM's about parts, I will start a thread when I go to part it out. I would prefer to get rid of the car as a whole piece, not bit by bit. I will post a pic of it an a little bit too.

Update with no pics.
I spent the day putting the dash back together. The previous owner had it all apart looking for the ECU. They took air ducting, wiring, modules and lots of other crap apart that I had to put back together. Now I need some interior pieces. I guess it's off to Mazdatrix I go.

Update time. I dropped the auto tranny, and driveshaft. I raped the parts car for the rear end. Man, was kinda a pita. I'll know just to go ahead and drop the whole rear subframe from the git-go on the new car. Somthing to do tomarrow I guess.
