sounds like an exhaust leak, or possibly a clogged cat, or both, because i have both problems but i can hear it all the time

The RPM jump can be any number of loosely associated things. The slight afterburn is an exhaust leak...you probably need new gaskets.

shhhhhhhhhh ... no cats - no leaks - the stink pipe is a full slip joint with welds and the gas flow in mind.

no no it sounds like a soft pop. could a bad or leaking ACV have this effect? keeping in mind that the car still runs realy good.

Is it possible that there's a leak from your exhaust gaskets, going into the manifold? surely you didn't weld the manifold directly to the exhaust.
