okay I know I'm going to sound dumb but I'll say it anyways.
What is a rtek I know its a ecu ,but is like a standalone or equvialent to a chip in a piston engine? does it have the features of a standalone can it be tuned?

the rtek is more like the "Flashing" of a mitsubishi ecu. but, its a bit limited so far. the earlier versions are just for mainly upgraded injectors, clearing floods with the s5 method (all rteks so far are for s4 turbo-2's) eliminating fuel cut instead of lying to the ecu like an fcd does (while retarding ignition timing 1 degree for every 1 psi over stock boost level) and also different injector staging/load points and percentages. now, they are developing an rtek 2.0 ecu. which is basically a standalone fuel management system in that you can have total fuel adjustability, and timing maps set for yourself. you can also use it as a code scanner and other various things. it uses the stock harness, so you had better have a good one. otherwise, run the code scanner first and see what is screwed up or what you need to replace. its going to be around or under 500 dollars from what i hear. cheaper if you already own an rtek ecu for the rx7 as they just reprogram it from what i assume. its a nifty device that many of us are patiently waiting for. ive been waiting the better part of 6 months for this thing to come out. cant wait till it does! i think they are trying to make it compatible with a MAP sensor so you can take out your afm as well. but, i think that is still being developed. just look at

www.pocketlogger.com

they used to have a vid of what it does, but i forgot where it was or who hosted it. you may wanna ask around on the forum if anyone has that vid still. its pretty sweet.

is this going to be compatible with the zeitronix zt2 wideband?
Yes. You can use the Rtek's external analog input to log WBO2 from the Zt-2

so, i figure if i detune the 680's while its in the 720/720 mode, it should be okay???
No. For safety's sake, run it in 550 mode and lean it out using the fuel correction. You should never start lean and richen the mixture, start rich and lean for optimal A/F.

i know the zeitronix wideband has the simulated narrowband output connector. will this be okay for the 2.0 ecu to read?
Both can be used.

but IF they release it without MAP capabilities, is there an software upgrade in the future we could simply download
The ECU is not flash based so nothing would "just" be downloaded. It would be at minimum, a replacement EPROM that would need to be changed in teh ECU.

hmm...that sux about the MAP compatibility if it isnt in place when it first comes out. right now, im all about this ecu. its only palm OS compatible tho right? guess i need to get another pda when it comes out. also, i had a question as far as starting (now that its cold) based upon the weather conditions. is there anyway you can adjust the starting and warming up of the car (other than leaning and richening the injectors and timing) based upon the air and coolant temp? basically, i know its pretty damn close to a full ems, but as compared to other ems's, what critical components are left out that a full ems can provide? i still plan on purchasing this ecu as i love the plug and play idea with the code scanner, data logging with the zt2 now, note pad, richening/leaning, timing, and so forth. but, im not too familiar with ems so if you have any experience with other fuel management systems, i would like to hear your comparison!

Thanks again for letting me trouble you.
