So THATS the rev limiter

I'll never again laugh at you guys who have done this ; because now I know what it feels like to really, really miss a gear.
I was on the home stretch of a 2 hour drive, decided it was about time for my patented 5th-4th-3rd manuever across 3 lanes of traffic, in order to get in my exit lane. Mostly a style thing. I could go straight to 3rd but whats the fun?
Problem is I miss 4th. Grinds but I don't register it; because I'm already thinking about 3rd. But in that half second I realize I'm not feeling any pull, so I glance down with the stick hesitating in that middle realm, and its a real shock to see the needle is already to 9k. I turn back to the road; its busy because of the weekend and I'd rather not rearend anybody, all of this happens so slowly but out of the corner of my eye I swear that damn needle is jumping faster than I've ever seen, as the engine goes:
bwaaaaaaa. . .bwap!bwap!bwap!
I put it into 4th out of luck, and it settles back down. Its funny how you sometimes find yourself dead on your feet like that; one little mistake and everything falls apart. I'm certain that was the first time this car has seen either the rev limiter or 9k; much less both at once.
Doesn't the rev limiter kick in at like 9600 on the '89-91 N/A? Or is it 8600? I think I'll ask before checking for myself.
I took it nice and easy the rest of the way.

Suparslinc,

Yeah your behind someone in 1st gear and your like "take this" as you pass them in 1st. It's SOOO easy to overrev in 1st and your rx-7's like "Waaaaaahhhhhhhhaaaa I thought you loved me."

On my TII the rev limiters at 7800 I believe and the HP curve peaks at 6800.

Like I said before I won't laugh at you; but all the times I took the motor that before, it was on purpose. It's an entirely different deal when it happens unexpectantly. I know I posted on that thread. Get your head out of your *** :p

Yeah, I'm sure everyone around thought I was the coolest thing on wheels.
Then yesterday I was driving down this back street, and a shiny red Porshe 911 was coming my way, so I climb to about 8k in first to make a loud pass, hit the limiter again and let off to shift and as I do I get this huge backfire I bet the porsche guy thought I was making fun of him or something I couldn't have timed it better if I had tried :p

I'll second that one... it's REALLY easy to over rev in 1st with a ported turbo 2 with other mods, because that thing pulls hard all the way to redline and past it. I was out the other day and there was this harely with straight pipes on it making a loud noise next to me, and I was running with no silencer on the N1 that day, so I thought I'd get in a noisemaking contest with him... I was revving hard and he was right next to my window, so all I could hear way harley and I didn't hear my over rev buzzer... all of a sudden got a big power loss and looked at the tach... ack! it was pegged (t2 tach only goes to 8k, redline at 7) the big power loss must have been mr. rev limit...

I don't think any damage was done to the motor, sinc it still runs the way it always did. Besides, the non-turbo's redline is 8k anyway, and it's really the same motor with lower compression ratio specs... gotta burn off that carbon

Is there an MSD box for rx-7's that has a user adjustable rev limit? Spark cut rev limit coming into effect makes the normal rotary backfire look like a little firecracker by comparison...

Your babie doesn't like you're over-revving - she'll cut your fuel supply in spite
