So S5 N/A EM harness is dropin for S5 TII - not so fast
The S5 N/A EMission harness (TPS, fuel inj, Press sensor, crappy smog solenoids) seems like a great dropin option for a S5 TII, especially if your original harness got roasted in an underhood fire like mine. At least I thought it would be a no-brainer. However even after reading evanb's useful post about the ECU terminal diagram showing what to do about the missing boost (duty) control and knock sensor (I recommend ignoring them and going aftermarket), there is one more critical item to deal with - i.e. eliminating the additional TPS resistance that comes from the EC-AT connector (which is apparently included in all models, both manual and auto.)
Not sure why these wires present resistance to ground, but mine did, and that means getting a TPS code from the ECU, poor idle and decel bucking. To eliminate this irritation, I just pulled the pins tied to the B/G wires at connector X11. Hope this helps peeps seeking a S5 TII EM harness.

I see no ECAT on the B/G wire nor any connector inbetween the TPS and the ECU.
The only common wire b/t the TPS and the X-11 is the common ground wire for ALL the sensors in the engine bay and boost gauge in the instrument cluster. The other wire G/Y off the boost sensor is to feed the voltage to the boost gauge.
EDIT: I see, it's on the non turbo dwg. Odd. If there is no plug on the ECAT, then there's empty air on the other side of X-11. And there should have been two B/G in X-11 if the jpg is right. But they go nowhere.

I added some to my last post. You might read it. If the ECAT plug isn't connected to anything, then I don't see how you'all get more resistance. But depinning both B/G should do the job. Odd thing. I don't own a series five so I've nothing to look at in the real world.
I shouldn't have said there's empty air on the other side of X-11, there's empty air on the ECAT plug if there's no ECAT unit. I've never seen a ECAT unit myself.

RX Trivia : the words underlined in green expain somewhat why there is a tiein to the TPS on the ECAT.
Humor: in the early 90"s our factory had a Team called ECAT (Electrical Corrective Action Team). I loathed having anything to do with what they put out. It was always upside down/backwards to me. I'll never own a automatic for that one reason plus a few other reasons.
It was a lot like the SIX S concept that came shortly after. Thank God I"ve forgotten what the Six S stood for, but on the whole a TEAM would decide where everything was located in a work station, because "they knew best". Fugg 'em.
EDIT: Oh yeah. I Googled Six S Program and came up with this: http://www.amc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123110895
Just goes to prove my theory or proclimation. NEVER hire a ex airforce person to work on building airplanes. Hire army personel, navy, coast guardsmen, border patrol, garbage men but never AirForce men. They're TAINTED by propaganda.

HAILERS - I totally agree that it makes no sense. Wires to a unit (EC-AT) that shouldn't be in a manual tranny car should be open, however my Fluke VOM doesn't lie (just BS's a bit). I didn't expend the effort to figure out where the wires go (someone out there knows I'm sure). All I know is the fix worked!
I went to an AFA seminar in Beverly Hills recently and those AF brass are on their own planet of denial. They sure understand Air Power though.
Oh and I'm not seeeing green underlined text??

Sorry 'bout that. I got a little carried away rambling and forgot the jpg. The jpg just more or less explains why TPS signals go to the ECAT. Not important. In fact I've learned more about automatic transmissions in the last couple of days than I ever wanted to know. Have a good day.

it's actually 5S and it may be a Lean manufacturing concept. Also Known as Toyota manfacturing process. It stands for Sweep, Sort, straighten, standardize, and sustain. Some place add a another for safety. Just a little info from your friendly process engineer
Well we've the new inproved version with safety added, 6S.
And don't get me started on JIT. Let me tell you what I think of JIT...........oops, gotta stop. I see the waste basket is on the left side of the desk instead of the right side. Gotta have your priorities.
I'll stop. This isn't the lounge and a Monitor Lizard will kill this if I keep on. Hmmm, Process Eng.........GRRRRR. humor
