I was installing the tranny tonight and when we were wrestling it into place (word to the wise leave it in if you can), well I heard something fall into the oil pan that sounded like a nut, a squirrels bury them kinda nut.

yeah a ******* walnut or acorn or something is in my oil pan. I put the engine in a couple weekends ago, but when I put the oil pan on I noticed no nut... and the engine had been sitting over the winter in the heated side of the barn, awaiting the install... and now I find a nut was lodged in the engine somewhere. ...

anyone have any suggestions. I am thinkin pull the motor again pull the oil level sensor and remove the nut... should be easy since there was no oil in the oil pan when it was installed.

 

if the nut is in the oil pan, dont pull the motor, just drop the pan next time you are changing your oil.
youll need to jack up the tranny and loosen the motor mounts, but its really easy, just make sure you seal it up REALLY well with silicone when your done. you dont want any leaks. now would be a good time to install an oil pan baffle, if your ever going to do that sort of thing

 

I found it to be a huge pain in the dick replacing my oil pan gasket.

Like RX7Girl said though, you're gonna have to loosen the motor mounts and jack up the motor/trans a few inches to be able to get to some of the bolts closest to the front of the car. You might want to look into getting a dedicated 10mm swivel, 1/4" drive with an extension, too. Would probably make things easier.

already has baffle, and problem with pulling pan is that you have to reseal it. And doing a half *** job is gonna for sure bite me in the *** and since this a new motor I need to kinda make sure I do it right.

 

pulling the pan isnt to bad....just takes time is all...

 

well since the motor is still not completely installed I just figure it would be easiest to pull the motor again and then do any kinda oil pan work with the motor completely out.

then I can insure proper work.

 

so I pulled the pan and everything and there were like 4 or 5 nuts up in the oil pump chain and inside the front cover area.

 

LOL... Sounds like something made it's way in to the motor and found it to be a nice space for storage. Hope there isn't something inside the motor. That would make for a nasty smell upon your next oil change...

 

so how did they get in? i need to keep the squirls out of my motor, LOL. Did you have the cap off?

 

my uncle tore up his lincoln looking for what he thought was a suspension noise but turned out to be a walnut in his frame. That wouldnt be that funny except that he forgot and did it again three years later when the noise returned.

 

For most nuts and bolts in the oil pan, it's not worth pulling the pan. They won't be sucked up by the oil pump and won't cause any problems. Pulling the pan is a major pain in the butt...

Still wouldn't be sucked up by the screen. And likely drained at the next oil change.

 

What the hell is with you people and nuts... Maybe 7 owners are just cursed.
