smoking problem at shift???

hey i just got an rx7 last week, its an 89 gxl 5spd. i've noticed that under full throttle when i shift there will be a rater large puff of blue smoke out of my exhaust. the car doesnt smoke anyother time, i was wondering if anyone knew if this was a serious problem or just one of thoes things i'll have to put up with. it would really help me out if anyone knew what was causing this

sounds like an oil seal going bad,but yet again if i rev mine to say 7k then shift theres a tiny poof of smoke...but i have a turbo so i think theres too much fuel going into the engine while speed shifting im not so sure...but does it do it all the time no matter what rpm you are shifting at?

in an n/a it usually means the side seal o-rings are brittle and cracked letting oil past, means the engine needs an overhaul and the problem will only get worse.

its only at high rpm, like above or around 7k, could this hinder performance or just inconvience me with some smoke?

blue smoke=oil burning
grey/black smoke=a rich fuel mixture

My car did the exact same thing. Would smoke alot during shift when I was kicking on it. The problem will only get worse. It got so bad that currently my engine has been pulled and is ready for rebuild. It started smoking about a 6 months ago and now its done for. Just to give you a time frame. Happy rebuilding! 8)

Quick Fix for Oil Seal Failure at high RPMS:

When you go to add oil (which I'm sure you do often) With this problem Check your oil CONSTANTLY!~ Add one bottle of Brake fluid... I know everyone is going to freak out that I said that..... Yes I know that Brake fluid is corrosive yes... But mixed with the motor oil (TRY 20W50 instead) In a small amount it isn't harmful to engine internals... Brake fluid reacts to soft materials in a sponge like reaction. In short Brake fluid makes rubber swell up. Try it on a dry rotted hose or tire and watch it swell up....

So adding this to the oil will make the OIL seal SWELL UP. REducing the Blowby from the side seal. THsi is a temporary fix and I ran for 30-40K like this before I sold the car... He ran another 10-20K before the seals gave out completely. I added Brake fluid at every oil change.

Just a sugestion

you know they make high milage oils that do that too, and are made to do that...
if you wanna see if your seals are bad, put it in first gear and bring it up to redline then just let off the gas, dont push in the clutch just let off the gas. if its the seals then it will smoke realy realy bad till you get down to about 4k.
