Exclamation smoke smoke smoke!

lets get straight to the point, i have an 86 na and at high rpm my exhaust shoots out a lot of smoke. the color is like a dark blue. is my motor bad? it runs completly fine. actually it runs like a champ. so what would be the source of the smoke.

What is 'high RPM'? On a decently worn engine at high engine speeds, you could be having some oil squirt passed the hard oil rings. Just dont rev it that high and dont be surprised when you pop your engine.

Your car may or may not be riding the doom train. I suggest you get off at one of the stops before it hits the cliff.

If you can drive your car... you don't NEED a rebuild. You could have cracked apex seals, and still be putting down decent power from what's left of your motor. You could drive that car to work... maybe even twice if you're real lucky. Catch my drift? I'd rebuild it before you hurt it more (i.e. one day you look down and the oil pressure gauge is taking a nap down at 0)

yeah, rebuild it. once you lose an apex seal, you destroy half of your motor

I told you whats prolly going on, you rev the engine up high, oil gets past the oil rings and gets burned. Either the oil rings are worn out against the face of your plates, or the oil ring springs are weakening. Your oil pressure gauge is not a good thing, its one of the most important guages in keeping track of the life of your engine. Where in california are you at, Ill take a look. But if you do sell it, I hope you disclose this information to your buyer, if you dont, that would be so uncool

No turbo?
Then it has to be the oil control o-rings.
This requires a rebuild to access and replace.

All that buring oil? no it wouldnt, it'll help clog your cats up though. BUT you dont have an oil pressure guage, its crucial to have one. Also keep an eye on your oil consumption. Once you have no oil /oil pressure, that motor is fubar. I mean, if you say it only happens when you rev it real high... dont rev it up high! It is possible to get around town and on the freeway under 4k rpms. If you dont have money for a rebuild, you probably cant afford the downtime when your car suddenly pops. And it will sooner than soon if you keep going rev happy

you cant check the status of the oil control rings through a compression test.

i thought normally you are suppose to get smoke on decel especially at high rpm from the omp giving more oil to lubricate the seals and exceess oil being burned off on decel ? or is there too much smoke for it to be normal ? i know mine smokes on decel at least im pretty sure it does but im sure its normal i actually never even saw how much it smokes but its a new rebuild with less than 500 miles

No, but it does crud up the spark plugs quite a bit.
The spark plugs will eventually foul and not cause the engine to start or run.

I noticed you're in Cali?
Do you know that CARB has a hotline to report cars that are excessively smoking on the streets?
Hope you don't get reported!

He would only get reported if he was racing me jumping train tracks. Lol What up Bryan! mine has a nice little mushroom cloud too around 7000 or so. but didn't you disconnect your air pump? I know that's the reason mine won't pass smog. I just thought that was natural when removing the air pump.

Your oil seals are going bad. Assuming that it only blow smoke when you shift at redline then it's not really a big problem. My old Autocross ***** used to blow a little cloud every shift.

Your compression has to do with your apex seals and such, not your Oil seals or your water seals
