Talking smogable n/a mods?

ok sooo heres the story,
im lookin to rebuild a 86 6port with a little more kick but still ca smogable.
main thing im thinking is what will cause it to fail smog.
i know goin with like a streetport will and removing the cats and airpump blah blah blah all that stuff.
is it possible to shape the 5th 6th port tubes and port those ports a little since they dont open up past 3500rpm or whatever? what about the VDI? throttle body mods?
basically i bought the car thinkin i was gonna rebuild it cheap and smog it and pull the engine and do a large streetport on it but since i just blew an apex seal in my fd im lookin to get this thing back on the road again soon and just want a little more kick for the heck of it.
any info would be greatly apreciated.
thx.

-Ric

You want more power from your NA but you don't want to sacrifice any of the emissions stuff? Get an intake, get an exhaust, install an afc neo, lean it out a little bit, lighten up the car, thats about all you can do.

hey! first to respond! lol I dont kno much about porting, but i do think you can remove the exhaust defusers w/e and neg effects but i dont think there is any big gains. Searching some of the rebuild threads and instructions would deff help you find some stuff out. Hope you get ur FD fixed quick!

Get whatever exhaust you want but keep your old stuff - cats ect.- so you can put it back on to pass your smog test.

The only thing you can do is add a catback exhaust that does not exceed certain sound levels. I dont think anyone makes legal headers, intake, high flow cats.

As far as an engine build, you might be able to pass with ported runners that kick in high rpms. Mazdatrix claims you can pass smog with their mild street port. There isnt much you can do to keep legal in CA.

You coud swap a rx8 engine and take it to a ref to get approved, but that is a lot of money
