Smell my oil!!

I just found out that I had a gas leak from the D.P. bolt at the main fuel rail when I was putting a new upper and lower hose on my rad. So I did the cheap fix and put the banjo bolt on the end and that fixed the leak but I went to check the oil and it smelled like gas so bad! so I changed it. but dose anyone think that it could be a more serious problem than what I think it is, I did have the upper intake off and had a bit of fuel all over the place. and one more thing I went to go test out the new fix, banjo bolt, and it started to get a little hotter than normal, I did just put a new thremostat and new hoses and fluid. so what else did I miss I don't know what could be doing it. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Change it again soon, then smell it and see if it still ranks of gas.....

Won't help, but shouldn't have gotten in the oil.....unless you severely flooded it in the process. Which brings me to, does it flood very often? That would be a good way to get gas in the oil....

OEM thermostat? Are you sure you got all the air out of the system?

EDIT: classicauto addressed issue better than me

Non-OEM thermostat runs hotter and locks shut earlier.

thanks for your help, there are a lot of things I must have over looked when I was doing the thermostat. I ended up taking it to a shop and having them "power flush the rad." it was $70 but they got it to work again. I got a thermostat from victoria british, so I think it would have been a oem. but who knows what they like to send me. again thanks alot for your help!

Fact or Fiction. Where do you get your information from?

You can get higher or lower temp thermostats. Im using a 180 degree thermostat from Advance auto. The coolent system on our motors run the same way they do on any other motor.

I went to check the oil and it smelled like gas so bad! so I changed it.
How long has it been since you checked your oil? If your engine floods or has exxcesive fuel being stored in the chambers, and if your oil seals are not 100% like most of them on original motors, then fuel is probubly getting by them. This was happening to me. Do you get any smoke out the back during start up of HIGH Vacuum such as Decel from a high RPM?

I haven't seen any smoke from the pipes yet, is it a bad thing that it leaks inot the oil? it will make the oil burn alot better Im sure but will it hurt the lubing for the parts? and also I figured out what the hell is wrong with it, I had the shop put it in the air so I could look at it and I see that the seals on the trans. are bad and leaking and the oil pan seal is leaking and either the water pump or something more major is leaking, i have coolent dripping down the lower rad. hose and must be spraying on the exhaust heat shield. could that be just the water pump? thanks for all the advise its helping me out BIG TIME!

you can acctually get a 170 and a 165 from autozone so i dont exactly think that oem is absolutly neccesary.

Both those thermostats are wrong. As I recall, the stock opens at around 184 or so. I could be a little off so if you really want to know you can look in the manuals.

There is a long history with aftermarket thermostats NOT WORKING in the RX-7, so stick with OEM. The OEM thermostat has the proper bypass plug and the jiggle pin to help bleed air.
