smallest air filter
Hi all, I am looking to put the CAI into my NA down into the little tire fender area right above the windshield wiper bottle/motor. I dont want to take the bottle/motor out so I need to just either have a super small air filter, or some sort of in-line air filter for what ever size those prelude intake pipes are. Any ideas what im talking about? Thanks guy.
I saw a little filter on a turbo inlet once that was like a while peice of cloth or something that was acting like the filter. I was thinking maybe 3 or 4 of those on there would work just as good, just change it every month or so?
Thanks.

you could relocate the wiper bottle if you didnt want to remove it. you could cut out some of the body like what people do when they run intercooler pipes also. i think i found the smallest air filter lol...its 50mm
In terms of making more power, you want the BIGGEST filter you can possibly fit. More surface area = more area to pull air in. The smaller the filter, the less potential power you can make. Early 1986 models had the washer bottle on the driver side, you can probably find one for sale in the For Sale section. Easy swap. Of course, just losing it, and keeping your car clean, is so much nicer..
Performance gains sometimes require sacrifice, or custom modification. Its not too hard to move a washer res. Any gains you would see would be counteracted by the force necessary to pull air through the filter, or damage caused by too large of particles making it into the intake.
Some filters I would suggest though, are K&N or Spectre. Spectre are sold at most Autozones, they flow extremely well, there is a local with a twin turbo 1000hp truck that dyno'd almost the exact same number with the filters on and off.

Early 86 didn't have the washer bottle on the drivers side - it was the radiator overflow. I know because I bought one to replace the one I removed to fit my fmic.
What you CAN remove from the passenger wheel area is the silencer for the air pump.
Also another way to get outside air into an NA is to cut into the support that holds the radiator, run a 3" pipe through the hole and place the filter in front of the radiator and condenser. (same place where you would put a fmic)

Hmm..coolant overflow..
I'm pretty sure SOME model came with the washer bottle on the other side - for the REAR (hatch) washer. Its a smaller bottle, but you could rig it up to work on the front, and remove the front bottle.

hehe ok but I would like to see some pictures of what other people have done. I Dont want to go cutting on radiator supports without seeing and example first.
