Slight smell of gas on dipstick.

Checked the oil...and a very slight smell of gas from the oil on the dipstick... Normal? Should I be worried?

You will always have a little fuel in the oil, particularly with a rotary engine, so don't fret. If you are really worried about it, send a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis next time you change oil to see if it is within the normal range. Only then will you know for sure if it is a problem.

No premix

Ok, I feel better as the smell was very vague.

Off to get it changed.

Thanks!

Most people with fuel dilution issues get a strong smell of gas. If it's that vague it probably isn't anything. If you do have fuel dilution, you need to change your oil more often to keep the oil from thinning out too much.

Maybe I should use a 20/50w oil?

Well if it's that vague I wouldn't worry. I guess 20w50 would help thicken it in theory, and it'd slow the fuel/oil leak. But if you really have a problem I'd still change the oil more often even w/ 20w50. And you shouldn't ever use 20w50 if the weather's ever way below freezing (too thick&gooey). I dunno, I'd give it time and see if it's even something to worry about. Plus I hear people with bad fuel dilution tend to get more and more "oil" as fuel overfills the sump.
