slight overting problem

so i was up in the canyons last night pushing the 7 kinda hard, and when i got to the top my coolant was overflowing into the overflow-tank. it sounded like it was starting to overheat, although the temp gauge was at its normal level. another wierd thing was my exhaust mani. was glowing bright red where the o2 sensor sticks through the heat shield. so i am going on two possible problems:

1) my cat is somewhat clogged and is building up heat, and

2) maybe my radiator is fucked? (just a wild guess on that one, trying not to think of bad seals since the car only has 85k on it)

appreciate your help

Since you were doing canyons, could be that the air flow wasnt matching the load you were putting on the engine as compared to running in a straight line. My water and oil temp goes up a few notches when I do canyon runs.

when i had my last 7, the overheating thing never happened. that car had a new radiator though, so that may have had somthing to do with it.

also when i opened up the hood a lot of smoke came out, it was pouring out of an area right above my exhaust mani. by a circular thing.

edit: also forgot to ad, when i started it after letting it cool down, it had a rough idle

dont buy anything new just yet. If you are worried about a coolant seal being blown, go have your cooling system pressure tested.

What circle thing? pictures?

i dont think a seal is blown, just started overheating and all the coolant drained into the overflow tank. then after it was cooled off, went back to normal. plus thre is no smoke coming from my tailpipes, just the engine bay.
Il have to take pictures when i get home, but its right above the exhaust manifold right by the motor, but under these two circle looking things

here, il sum it up for anyone who wants to take a stab:

1. exhaust manifold glowing bright red
2. coolant is boiling over into the overflow tank
3. oil smoke in engine bay

does your car lack power? clog cat can cause that... and yes a clog cat can cause a bright red burning hot manifold.

It is a recall on chevy impalas, that the cat gets cloged and the manifold builds so much heat it actually cracks... (it should be impalas, if i remember right, and it should have been a recall)

Thats the most similar thing i can think of to your problem from all the cars i have seen. The under hood temperature is EXTREME in impalas with that problem (i think its 02 impalas) idk check alldata if anyone has access. oh and the temp gauge doesnt show a significant difference.
