I think the "sleepy look" is just that. Not quite awake.
With the stock headlights it looks lame.
On the other hand, When you mount a pair of round driving lights where the headlight is, then it can look really cool, like it actually BELONGS!
Like the new Miata, or the RE-amemiya kits.
I am a purist, and I like form that is funtional. Usually the smoother, simpler, and more beautiful the form the better the function.
You wouldnt drive around with your head only half over the dashboard!

Not that I think the HUGE pop ups on the RX-7 are the best form, but if you are going to put your lights "to bed", then at least modify them to use smaller headlamps, so your lights don't look broken.

Well let me put it this way, it looks WAY better than the full open lights. However visibility SUCKS bigtime even with the fog lamps on (which doesn't help at all)

I was going to say that too. Why would you put a picture like that in your avatar if you hate the lights? Anyway, I think the lights are the ****, but to the UN-TRAINED eye they may look broken. Any sports car enthusiast knows that it looks tricked out though.

Avatar. I think they're cool, and they don't eliminate the functionality of the lights either. I almost always make them sleepy at night when i'm driving. When it's day time, I just leave them down and turn on the lights and it shines straight through the ftp's.

Is there any way to make the lights stay half up during the day, but come all the way up at night?? I guess I don't mind the way it looks, but I think that with regular lights you wouldn't see the road as well...

Yeah, that's what I heard also. There's some guy that imports them here in California and that's the price he quoted. You should PM fcturbo2 because he contacted the guy that imports them and knows the exact price. I don't mind paying $500 because I'm not going to buy any other parts for the outside except for a different wing and wheels.
What guy is selling this kit? You have a number where I can reach him? I'd like to get one.

if you can get the non sealed h4 kit (like the one made by hella) that doesnt have holes for city lights, theres a city light kit you can buy that has a ring that holds onto the h4 base and the city light just chills right under the headlight (inside the fixture). i have the blacklightish purple ones in mine

i think there is enough light from sleepy lights to see with, just use high-beam. hell, i drive around with only the FTP's on and its enough light, so with half a regular headlight it is really plenty. but if you really wanted, i suppose it wouldnt be too big a deal to tap a relay into whatever wire is going to the retractor fuse (or two relays, one for each headlight and tap into the wires at the motor) then put a toggle switch in the cabin that would let you isolate the circuit without getting out of the car. ****, you could even step-down the voltage if you wanted to make the light move slower and make it easier to place.

Really? I guess I'm not a sports car enthusiast, darn.

I think it looks stupid, but hey, if you like it, then it doesn't matter what I think.

For all you guys that don't like and like the sleep eye look. Believe it or not it serves a function exept on the mr2's. Since it doesnt open up all the way, there's a space for air to go in for you intake. It works like having the headlite scoop for the intake. A company named PIVOT makes the box that controls how far your lights go down and it's about 100 bucks. So yes you can make it go up at nite and put it down to the sleepy look during the day. We here in hawaii are heavily influenced by what goes down in Japan and our shops bring in a lot of JDM products whether it be for Honda,Mazda, etc. So we know what all these weird products are for. You guys should get some OPTION videos that have tuning on rx7's and other cars too they also have rx7's drifting all around the place (it's cool!). Oh yeah just thought I'd mention that we have drift sessions here every month and drifting is the ****! 1/4 mile is fun too. Have fun everyone. Laterz
