skeleton for headunit in dash???

Is there supposed to be some kind of metal in the dash for me to moung my headunit? As far as I can see I just have an empty spot. I do have the metal around the head unit but all that is holding the unit up is really the S5 rubber surround. Any ideas??

Yes - There are two metal brackets on the original stereo that support the head from either side, and they screw into the dash above and below the head, behind the rubber stereo surround. The head is screwed into the brackets from the sides.

Just go to the junk yard and pull the cage off of a OEM radio

I would but the yards here don't even hold 7's and if they do they are stripped like pirahna's on meat, it's crazy.

Do you have any more info on this part? I need it for my stereo and it would be a big help to know where to look. A part number and manufacturer would be cool also.

Metra makes a dash kit that will fit, I have on in my vert. We sell them at Circuit City, they are like $18. I don't know the model number off the top of my head, but its a universal Mazda kit and is a pain to put together, but it works.

there was a guy selling stainless radio/gauge mounts for our cars. I bought one and it looks and fits great. It's alot more solid than any "dash kit" you can buy.

yea but it doesn't hold a stereo for ****. . unless I've installed mine wrong which i seriously doubt is the case .. all it is is a thin gauge stainless .. no mounting brackets for a DIN headunit. .it is a great looking peice, and holds gauges well but you'd need to find something else to help hold your stereo . .I have the stock cage holding mine and then the stainless peice covers it and looks great.
