Alright, so I guess this is a problem. I haven't heard of it that much until now. I just wanted to know if anyone can give an explanation of how it happens? I haven't seen the sleeves in person so I'm just assuming that they don't go deep enough in the port so they are able to just pop out of the tip? Is this actually happening semi-regularly or is this just a couple flukes?

 

Its not the sleeves, its the inserts that are sold by Pineapple Racing. If they aren't installed properly, they can come out and be injested by the engine. Go to www.pineappleracing.com and they have pictures of the sleeve with and without the insert.

 

Yeah, a few ppl have had this with Pineapple Racing inserts. IF you choose to buy them make sure you have them loctited and peened.
Hell when I went into the shop to buy mine I brought in my aux ports sleeves all cleaned up and Ron installed them right there.

Sorry, I meant the inserts. How are they held into place? You mentioned a couple things to have done and I have no idea what they mean :-)

Yes, myself and some other guys had issues (by that I mean engine-killing issues) with them a few months back. At the time we were following the instructions pineapple supplied for installation, which were nada. The only thing out there in the way of instructions at the time was on their webpage and said "the inserts are pressed into place and it is a very tight fit...".

I got accused of being the dumbest **** in the world for not making up my own set of instructions which could have included drilling and tapping a countersunk screw on the sleeve end, using loctite bearing retainer, pinning the insert in place from teh sides, or physically crushing the sides of the sleeve in on the insert to prevent movement.

During all of this, PR maintained their lack of responsibility for providing proper directions, and a couple of other guys lost engines as well. Finally, about 9 months later, a revised set of directions made it into their webpage. They STILL ARE NOT BEING SENT WITH THE INSERTS, a cusomer brought me a set he ordered this month which had no instructions. I could only shake my head. Sure, *I* know how to install them by now, but not everybody else does. That's bad business if you ask me. How f*&^ing hard would it be to print up a sheet of paper and throw in the box with them?

 

That was when I was using hypntyz7...search for posts under that name, and put pineapple in your search terms.

 

The additional HP is not worth the trouble or risk IMO.

 

We're yet to see dyno proof of any hp gains, aren't we?

 

I have a issue with the pineapple sleeves,and i remember reading the post from kevin while waiting on my sleeves to be delivered.Well i loctited them in place and thought they were secure,i have a stock rebuild,just 6 ports ported from kevin and in no way blame him,i supercharged his motor and it held to the abuse for 3 months.Then one day just cruising along at 60 m.p.h. no boost about 1/4 throttle the engine let go.I checked the compression and zero on the rear rotor,well i figured it was the boosting.I found a donor motor and was swapping everything over and found that the rear sleeve,the insert had slipped towards the intake,and was actually blocking any air from being entered.I then spun the motor over by hand and noticed that now it has compression on the rear rotor.Do you think that insert could have kept it from having compression?Theres no damage to the seals as i can tell looking through the exhaust ports.

 

Those reports will be published with the performance gains of low-profile windshield wipers.
