it's all personal preference .. shouldn't be what he said or she said.
They have advantages and disadvatages.
Dual = heavier (most likely) but quieter
single = lighter and louder...
dual = two muffler to rust out
single = one muffler to rust out

LOL, I agree, but dual is also quieter (with all other factors being the same) because the exhaust putts go through 2 mufflers as opposed to one.

when i was stationed in colorado, i saw an fc out there with a muffler on one side. i always thought that half of the exhaust just broke off or rusted through and fell off or something. everytime i walked by it in the parking lot i thought to myself,"dang that looks retarded. he needs to get that stupid lookin thing fixed!!!" i can imagine what others would think with a single on an fc. although if it weren't for that cutout in the bumper, it wouldn't be a problem and i'd go single myself. but it HAS the cutout so i'm gonna go with dual.
hey and maybe another advantage of the duals.....the weight is disbursed evenly when driving around so the car won't flip over on one side like a single would. haha!

I would like to keep both muffs and run duel but i can't find a decent cheap y-pipe.....also how much better is a full 3in exhaust compared to a 2.5in?

Of course, the single exhaust systems have freer flowing (and much louder) mufflers to make up for this, which is why they are looooooouuuuuuud on non-turbo Rx-7's.
I personally have a dual HKS system after my Racing beat header and presilencer and it is still has a very satisfying, pounding sound, just without the high pitched metallic buzz that some cars get with those single mufflers that have 3" exit pipes.
Hope this helps.
