Simple mechanics tech question.

OK- I don't have a pull scale- but I am replacing a front wheel bearing...
The manual specifies to tighten the bearing preload untill the initial turning force (from a pull scale from off the lug stud) is between .9 and 2.2 lbs.

My question- instead of using a pull scale, can I just hang 1.5lbs from a wheel stud, and adjust preload until the weight is just enough to pull the stud down/rotating the hub?

Should work- I just wanted to check, don't want to damage my hubs!

I don't think many people use a scale... just tighten with your hands till there is no play.

Tighten with a socket first to make sure everything is cozy, then back the nut off and re-tighten it by hand.
