sigh.....Another leaking Vert Top

ok, so for you vert guys out there *cough*(icemark)*cough*

what is a good remedy for sealing the gutters that run along the sides of the car that lead up to those little cups and then down the apillars? mine like to leak all along the targa section and the little cups drip on me and get on my nerves

i have searched and found it alot harder than i thought to find something on this. i have looked at trying to fix this from several angles but all of my ways seems to contradict the top, meaning i COULD seal it but as soon as i open the top it will be broken

thanks!

oh and yes i do know that victoria british sells a set of new seals, but, i would rather be dripped and rained on than to spend 300dollars on some rubber seals....maybe if i get a raise at my job, but certainly no time soon, lol

I have the same problem with mine. I replaced bothe of the A piller peices with the cups on them, as well as the peice that goes along the top of the side windows. Still drips. I AM going to eventualy do the peice that goies across the top and if that doesnt work i dont know what else to do cause that will be all of the seals.

I did however replace the top (just the rear) and My trunk is now dry !!!!!!!!!

The only thing I have done to fix the cups from leaking is to glue them back into position and fill any rips in the actual cups with black silicon rubber adhesive (not to be confused with black silicon adhesive).

hmmm.....there is one thing that confuses me, along the targa peice, there is that rubber gutter and right next to is is a straight peice of metal that is in parallel to it, now my question is, is the rubber gutter supposed to be covering the metal piece or is it supposed to be squished up next to it?

you can also rub ATF fluid on the rubber and then shut the door and leave it for a day. When you come back the next day the rubber will have swelled up again blocking the water. These seals are 20 years old and have had the door slammed against them 1,000,000 times.

Thanks for the tip. I fully understand that these seals are old and SHOULD be replaced but the reality of it is is that i have to save my money for repairs, lol. I dont ever skimp on parts as far as doing a shoddy job with the mechanicals on my car but trim and cosmetics are less important to me. 300 for some rubber seals? or 300 for new components for the engine or some new guages or something? I will eventually breakdown and buy the seals when my financial situation improves, but, i also dont quite know whats all involved with the process or if its like redoing the seals on a windshield and i just dont have enough experiance to do it properly and should have a professional do it.

thanks for the suggestions guys

I glued the little cups in place with 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive-Black part number 08008. Be sure to tuck the top edge of the cup up under the rubber gasket fastened to the windshield. It only goes up in there about 1/8", but it makes a world of difference. I get no leaks whatsoever.

Good luck!
