Should I replace the thermostat?

My S4 T2 has 67,000 miles. I have rebuilt the engine due to low compression. Rear iron cracked near oil pedestal. Previous owner riced out car. FCD, no tuning, ebay air filter on civic aluminum pipe with hole in hard rubber coupler due to no reduction in size so it got squeezed with worm clamp beyond belief, white guage overlays, crush bent stainless exhaust. What do you expect?!

All good now.

I forgot to order the water pump gaskets last time when I ordered gaskets. I am wondering, should I order an oem thermostat at $21? I don't have many miles, yet I'm afraid that if it fails, my extremely expensive little engine goes boom. I'll probably order one anyways for piece of mind. How long has your thermostat lasted? Any other sensors deemed necessary to replace?

You can test your thermostat by putting it on the stove in a pan with heated water using a thermometer to see when it opens, but if you have the 21 bucks why not replace it.

Other sensor to replace is your o2 sensor and obviously replace the spark plug wires if they're old.

if it's for street use OEM, if it is going to see the track at all i would look at the high flow, lower temp threshold units(ie 160*F rated, which really only starts to open at 160 and is fully open at about 180F).

For $21 you might as well. However, you can also tune in a failsafe. I have anything over 220 degrees set to get super rich and make the car nearly undriveable.

Sweet thinking! Can the powerFC do this? If so, I'll let my tuner know.
