SHould I pay this much?

I'm currently looking at an 88 gxl rx7, with 160,000 miles, the person wants 2 g's for it. I took it for a test drive and its very nice. And the body is in excelent condition. Should I expect to pay this much? or should less? Thanks.

has it been rebuilt, if not depends how it was driven ive heard apex seals only last a little over 100k, there is a turbo II 87 and he wants like 2200 for it with 138k on it here in my town. and there is a 87 base model for 1200 so it just depends

Depends on you, if you think its worth it.. 2k seems to be the average price for second gens.. you might be able to get them cheaper but there might be minor body and interor stuff messed up.

try getting little knocked off of it..
And N/A seem to last for ever.. seen a few with 250K+ with no problems.. my N/A has 180k+ and still pumps out 110psi comression.

Most go for between 1,500 on the low side and up to 3,000 and this is based on stock setups without a rebuild or a decently used rebuild as well turbo or non. It just depends on how much u think its worth does it need a rebuild and what kind of condition it is in. On the exstream side you can exspect to pay ohh 9,000 or so for a well modified turbo rx-7

I would take a good long look under the hood. Check Aaron Cake's site for the full checklist.
The short list:
Brittle vacuum lines
oil leaks around the oil cooler lines and OMP lines.
old cracked suspension bushings
Each of those should knock a hundred or so off the price IMHO. No matter the curb appeal of these cars, they're going to need a lot of work to get them up to factory condition.

There is a guy near me with a t2 making about 350hp, he has 300k on his motor Bought it brand new, put bigger turbo with fmic and other fuel stuff one a few years later, has been in every state including canada besides hawaii and alaska> NA motors shoudl easily last over 100k. the previous motor in my car last 190k

if the engine has 160k, then 2k is a premium price, meaning everything else should be in really grreat condition.

if the engine is a rebuild or reman and has less than 100k on it, then 2k is good even if there are a lot of minor problems

Here is a great writeup from a very knowledgable forum member with tips on what to look for when buying an FC.

In my opinion, the price is ok but keep in mind that the engine may need to be rebuilt in the future. Its a crapshoot. I would definitely get a compression test done on the engine (done by a good rotary mechanic, and definitely NOT by a Mazda dealer tech).

a kid i met at the beach one night had a white 87 TII with 239,000 miles on it with no rebuild. rotarys will go forever if you drive them every day you just cant let them sit.

IMO????? If no rebuild has been done.....I would be thinking about it really hard. You hear on this board all the time:
"motor won't turn over........"

You have no way of knowing how the motor has been cared for int he past and 160 ticks is getting up there. Sure some can over 200k but yo have no prior knowledge of that motor. A rebuild before the apex seal goes is less than $900, After, well a new rotor housing is close to $500 by itself.

If there is a fresh motor and the car is clean.....Ok that price is OK
