My first vehical was a 84 Chevy C-10 pickup. 3 speed on the steering column That was fun. After a year I bought my 88 rx7 and have had it for about 6 years now.
S5s are no more reliable than S4s and are arguably less reliable in some areas. The condition of the subject vehicle is more of a determining factor than its build date.

go with the 7, i picked mine up outta the back of a lumber yard a year ago(it had been sitting there for about 2 years) for $310

took my an hour 2 get it started, the battery was so drained i connected jumper cables 2 my 12sec gtp that my friend was driveing, to the 7 and drove with both the cars connected for about 15minutes on the highway until the damn thing wound charge.

in the hour it took me 2 get it home i had more people try 2 race me at lights and turn arounds that in my whole 2 years of owning my grand prix.

(mostly b/c the *** hole whos car it used 2 be connected the trailing coil pack 2 rotor 1 and the leading 2 #2, and i drove it home on a blown out rear stationary gear)

and it sounded like complete *** at the time.

after i got outta my car i fell in love with it,

and yes its like i wife, if she wants the $2000 fendi purse, get or else se wont put out for a month.

but in all respect if its your first car, dont go with the cheapest one, spend time looking for the right one, time spent will not be wasted

My first car @15 was a 1982 RX7 GS with the 12A. I still have it and it has almost 200,00 miles on it and I have NEVER had a problem with it since I bought it with about 50,000 miles on it. Oh ya, it has the original engine in it too. It gets good gas ilage for a rotary and a hell of a lot of power so +1 on the FB 7's. Then I bought my 88 NA... OMG I have never put so much money into one damn car in one year than I did with this 88. I bought it running with about 100,00 miles and took great care of it like I do with my 12A and it still gave me problems at least once every two weeks. Then when the engine finnaly blew after 10,000 miles I swaped a S5 NA engine in it and it ran for about 5,000 miles and blew due to a bad thermostat. THEN I got fustrated thatmy 12A was kicking its *** in 0-60 and top speed, handleing, reliablity, gas milage etc etc that I bought a 1991 TII engine and swaped it into my 88 RX7. now its runnig about 12 psi of boost and keeps up with my 12A finnaly. It hasn't had any problems so far and doesn't look like there will be any for a long time. Bottom line a second gen or a Rotary is not the BEST choise for a first car because they take more attention than a girl friend and eat you check book frequently... inless you get a 12A (FB) of course. OH and insureance! OMG you'll be looking at about 120 a month with just liability and with the good student discount. ya thats pricey too. It takes about 200 a month to run a 2nd gen RX7. Consider getting a Supra or a 300ZX if you're looking for that age sports car as a first car. Rotary's aren't to be neglected even for a minute unfortunately. Pistons are the best choise on a first car unfortuntely. Sorry Guys but thats the truth, our cars don't have the Best reputation for reliablity. Good luck with your first car hunt.

lmao!

you started working when you were 1 or 2 years old?

how about the food you eat every morning and at night? how about all the clothes you've ever worn. you buy your backpack when you went to school at age 6? What about the cable Bill that your using right now to read this post?

its funny how these kids think they are all grown up cuz they get an allowance. And just because you get an allowance, doesnt mean you earned it.

haha

/being a jerk, off

Buy a good condition Rx7 and take care of it like its your child and it will treat you right. i think someone is selling a T2 for $2k right now.

You will get a great RX7 for your $4000 and have plenty $ left over if you do your research and be patient. It was said earlier and dont forget... You ALWAYS want to do a compression test and check for a coolant seal leak before you buy an RX7.

BTY: When you post a specific ? and a bunch of dipshits start trying to give you lifestyle advice that has NOTHING to do with your ?, IGNORE THEM. This forum should be used to exchange information about RX7s, NOT trying to be someones mother.

Also, when you post "Should I get an RX7? in the RX7 forum, you WILL continue to get the same answer... "YES"

im 20 and my parents are putting me through school right now. I drive a 98 ford explorer and it gets horrid gas mileage. 11 city, 20ish highway. I found an 86 fc and im getting it for 250 but i gotta rebuild the engine.

i want to learn how to do all this anyway so it works out for me. i know people who have all the stuff i can use to do the work so hopefully i will have my car at least working this year.

im excited to have one
