Should I buy a rx7
not another one of these thread. Here is my 2cents, if you have a job, a steady job i would go for a n/a fc. Also read the FAQ about the fc, and learn a bit more. If you dont have a job, patient, nor willing to learn and search then the rx7 is not for.
BUY ONE FOR SURE!
im 19 and ive been through four rx7's
2 na coupes, a vert, and a tii.
honestly theyve given me **** sometimes but i love em.
but yeah youre gonna need to have a job if you want an rx7
a)they arent good on gas
b)just having some money put away just incase anything happens is great for peace of mind

I used to have a 240, then UPGRADED (haha) to an FC. Yes, my s13 was reliable. Yes, it fixed itself (almost no maintenance required) and yes it got around 25-27 mpg. Guess what, I love my FC more. It guzzles gas, it needs constant maintanance, and things fixed, and there is never a time when it doesnt need something (if for nothing more then performance). It IS a money pit, and will cost a lot, but the more you spend on it, the more you get attached to it, the more you fall in love with it.
I bought my 87 NA with 30k on a rebuild for $1500 when i was 17 and i never looked back. As long as you have a decent understanding of cars and know how to use the search function you will be fine
I'm 18 and im on my second. First was a POS n/a, second was a black on black TII that is now 350hp.
I'd say go for it. Just be prepared to pay for a lot of maintence type stuff. If you drive alot even oil changes add up.
Also learn how to do alot of the work on your own. It will save you a lot of money and the headache of looking for a good rotary mechanic. Not just anybody can have an rx7 if you ask me. It either takes a lot of dedication and willingness to learn...or a lot of money. But most people on this forum do most or almost all of the work on it themselves. My rx7 is a fast exciting learning processs that doesn't seem to ever stop. And I love it.

now if your looking to get a seven plan on not having a girl friend! for the next 20 years!!!! you'll be power hungry and before you now it you will be selling you blood or your self to support your habit or pay off your debt! GO FOR THE 240
chances are this will be your only car if you're 16... so that means no car if anything goes wrong.... and trust me, they will. so in short: turbo FC= no, n/a FC= not as fun, but at least it's a little more reliable, s13= even better in terms of reliability and the most important aspect for teenagers... insurance is cheap for a s13!

Well I am 16 and i am looking to buy a first car. I really want a fc3s but the more i read that they break alot and have lots of problems it makes me want something else. So I guess what I am asking is do you guys think I will be able to spend around 4k to get a decent and reliable rx7 or should I go to something more like a 240 ? Thanks
--- dude an n/a 2nd gen rx7 is a GREAT first car imo, if you want to learn how to work on cars and are willing to fix things when they break (hopefully not often!) the rx7 is a sweet car, be aware the gas milage sucks major *****, but a n/a is probobly going to run 1 way or another for quite some time if your crafty with it and you DONT need a big budget so thats why i say its a great 1st car
my 2 cents
Dude, Just buy one, It's a car, All CARS, Need to be check and service. I got mines for free, It hasn't broke on me yet, You know what, I have notice that alot of people on this forum, Like to tease and crap, You because you post, WHAT THEY WOULD SAY A WASTE OF A TREAD. When all they have to do is not veiw it, and reply.
20 city 25 highway not the worst i have a 91 vert standard maintanence, only major work was a rebuilt engine at 150m miles it's such a great car it was worth the investment hope it last's forever luv that car like nothing else
A 240SX is like a girlfriend. She's beautiful and exciting and is great for a first-timer. No attached pieces and you can dump her when she's bad. (I used to drive my buddy's 240 before I got my FC)
An RX-7 is like a wife. You will take her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do you part.

My Fc for one year I've already replaced the clutch, Driveshaft, 2 trannys, all mounts, and a TPS which still gives me problems. But even with all that I still love her more than my 240.
i got mine when i was 16 im only 17 right now. First car. but i had a job. so its not bad. 6 month into the car and no problem except for one hose i had to replace. then i blew an apex seal. drove it 40 miles home got a rebuilt engine. put it in myself. found out the engine had a bad seal took it back and get it fix. i put it in and take it out myself except for the rebuilding, i just need 2 person to help me get the engine out. but i love it. simple to work with. be prepare to work on it yourself. i got better gas millage than my dads truck and my mom suv. its only a car,
dunno...in aus the 240sx is called a 180sx and came with a better engine...(stupid pos ka24's) and in aus they cost 14k...but so do fc's...
pros and cons
240sx: good on fuel, got potential(slot in an sr20det and your laughing),looks...(debatable) but a good 1st car.
fc: bad on fuel, looks awesome, its a rotary...(do i need to explain?), good sound, break if they havent been looked after, but you will love the rx7...
my advice: its up 2 you to decide...you have to drive it....

LOTS of RESEARCH to be done BEFORE and AFTER you buy a rx7. I would search for a Series5 (89-91). New then Series 4 so hopfully you won't have issue right off the bat. The shouldn't have very many miles either so there shoudl be a fair amount of life left in the motor.
My first vehical was a 84 Chevy C-10 pickup. 3 speed on the steering column
That was fun. After a year I bought my 88 rx7 and have had it for about 6 years now.
