Should I buy it.
1991 GXL 142K miles.
It's dark blue, flooded, with a flat tire. But it should be drivable.
It's got a nice Alpine system in it, ricey shift ****.
I can get it for $1500 defenately, maybe $1000 if I drop the system. Maybe.
Heres the damage.
On the hatch, there is rust at the rear edge of the glass. Various dings and dents here and there, small rust spots, the usual on a 11 yr old car.
Interior parts are cracked, mainly cosmetic. The trim around the clock, the vent louvers, the trim around the driver side power window switches.
I haven't seen the rest of the interior.
Engine bay looks very clean.
My insurance won't support having an RX-7 at the moment. My goal is to get it, make some minor repairs, clean it up a bit, and resell it, for maybe a $500 profit.
Anyone have any thoughts? It's lookin like a bad idea.
Heres another tidbit of info. I have a friend who is a great bodyman. He can teach me how to paint. I'm already learning how to sand and prep a car. Perhaps I can learn on this car.

Yes, I think you should buy it. Sounds to me like the car isn't that bad and with a few minor repairs I think you could get the cars value up to like $2,000-$2,300 easily. There actually weren't that many 91 RX-7's and I think it is a car that sells pretty easily.
A month ago at an auction I bought a 91 Acura Integra LS, 5spd, power everything and 115 K miles and then sold it the car for 4 grand and made a small profit ( a week later i bought a 90 gxl). Anyway after you buy that RX-7 you might think it is a bad idea but after its all over you will be pretty glad you did it.
I think buying that 91 and fixing it up would be a good project and would be a good chance for you to learn how to paint and stuff.
I say go for it

Well if you are buying just to resell I would definitely say don't do it. NA 7s don't have much of a band of sale value. I mean I don't see too many people getting more than $2000 for them. The fact that its a 91 will help some but it has 142k on it. Has the engine been replaced/rebuilt? If not don't bother getting it for more than like $1000. Seems to be in fair shape but with the 142k miles its going to need a rebuild real soon. The 89+ models have higher compression rotors so they will not last as long as it is. You really need to find out about the rebuild first off. I paid $1700 for my 88 GXL with like 130k on it but a rebuilt engine like 10,000 miles before I bought it. The body is good shape, just a few very small dings. No rust except 1 small bubble on the sunroof. The interior is decent, just had to put seat covers on. Had ice cold AC too. How much do you want to resell it for anyways? Oh ya, if you do happen to get it have the guy pay for a compression test first.

you guys are trippin, absolutely get it for 1k, if it looks nice and you can restore the interior some it will sell good, hell a bud of mine has a 90 GTU that a guy is offering 7500$ for, an 86 with no options and 160k in fair condition has like a 3000$ sale rate on kelly blue book, i know their off some, but hell thats a good deal. ive gotten all of my RX's for at or under 500 bucks, so my 87 auto i got for 500, the 86 im driving i got for 500, it was just flooded but the oil metering pump rod came unhooked and it blew, so i put the auto engine in it, the GSL-SE i have i paid 180$ for, and my 1st RX i paid 60 bucks for and im in the process of buying a perfect condition 86 right now that they say the engine is blown in for 500$, and i think its just flooded.

Bump
Need more opinions. Someone else is financing this and I'm doing the labor. Then after it's sold, we're splitting the profit. If there is no profit, I have to cover the loss.
Would it be easier to replace the hatch or sand and repaint it? The spoiler looks like it might get in the way, and the rubber trim around the glass is out of it's slot.
I'll ask about the engine rebuild/compression check.

You don't have to have all that, unless u want to drive it regularly. If someone gets in an accident with it their insurance will have to pay for it, trust me I work for an insurance company.

I would get it if I were in your shoes. Those are some really minor repairs for what you could eventually get out of it. I paid $2800 for my car, and I think I got one heck of a deal. I think you will consider that car a bargain after you get it, and start tinkering.
