short shifter

I'm not sure if my tranny came from a s4 or an s5, I will find out tomorrow, anyways someone has a short shifter I can get but he says its for a s4. Does it matter if my tranny ends up being a s5??

The short shifter will bolt right up to the transmission,no problem.
the Only thing that I can think of is where the Shifter's little ball at the end goes into the Hole in the trans.
the Ball is held into a little Block with a hole in it(to shift the transmision's gears),on the S4.On the S5 however.there is a bushing there.and it is integrated in the Trans shifting assembly(sort of thing).
HERE!:.this may help you a bit..there is a video also : http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm

S4 has a larger shift **** thread than a S5. That's the only difference.

Did you mean "inexpensive" or "cheap"?
After all, the stock shifter is also two pieces.

and those are pretty cheap to buy these days

seems like most of the more expensive(mazdatrix) short shifters are 1 piece, where as the ebay specials are 2 pieces... not that I have a problem with the ebay ones... I have one myself with no problems so far
