short shift kits?
i just want some personal accounts of people who have short shift kits (either mazdatrix or mazdaspeed versions). like it? think it was useless? rattling issues? only reason is i need to get new shifter bushings so i thought might as well throw on a short shifter... thanks for any info!

I have the Mazdatrix in my S4. It rattled severely when I first put it in. I've worked on it since and cured the rattle. I like the Mazdatrix shifter, plus it comes with a new set of fittings and bushings.

I kinda like a slightly notchy feel on the shifter, too. Maybe its because the first stick I drove (89 mustang gt) was pretty notchy. As for Aarons shifter, Itll be ready whenever he gets it working perfectly. Could be soon, could be the end of the year. I'm willing to wait for a perfect design, though. Especially since my car sint even running. lol

My old stocker had 6th and 7th gears in it, it would just go into somewhere and feels like it was in gear, wtf, solved by new bushing, miata shifter and pistol grip shift ****

I threw a Miata (mid 90's) short throw in my car and I love it. Took a little "massaging" to get it just right, but once I did, it worked out great. That and the weight of my Rx8 **** makes shifts quick and precise. Even my fiancee, who is only now learning to drive stick commented at how easy it was to find gears. And for around $50 shipped, you can't go wrong!

I've got the Mazdatrix shifter. It's noticeabley notchier and tougher to get into gear--especially downshifting. That being said, the 1st-2nd is much shorter and the 2nd-3rd is feels more precise. It's a bit annoying around town sometimes.
Mazda transmissions are just notchy as hell. A friend of mine has an FD with a B&M short shifter and it's shorter and notchier than the FC mazdatrix unit. It's actually pretty hard to get used to in that car.
I wish our cars were like my Mark 3 Supra. A short shifter for that car is a DIY job that costs $21. All you do is replace the bushings with stock Toyota bushings from one of their 80s T100 trucks and break off the top threaded part of the shift lever, then use a **** with set screws (or JB weld the stock one on there). This $21 shifter I have on my Mark 3 Supra is actually much nicer than my what, $150 Mazdatrix shifter. It's way less notchy, easier to get into gear, and just as short and precise.

C's and Mazdaspeed is what I've used and love them. I believe C's makes the shifter for Mazdaspeed. How different are the 3rd gen shifters. Anyone ever compared?
