shooting flames..
shooting flames..
This happens because fc stock setting makes them run rich up high? so basically all u need is a free flow exhaust and rich rpms up high, then when you let off the gas, once the rich exhaust mixture hits the tail pipe, it shoots flames correct?
so theoretically if you really wanted to shoot flames, you could tune your safc to put out 20% more fuel to shoot more flames?
Im just wondering how this works, i dont actually want to waste fuel doing somethign like making fire come out of my exhaust.

Supposedly ppl say no cats, tb mod, and free flowing exhaust = flames but I've never had any. Never got any with tb mod, turbo fuel pump, no cats, header, and dual straight through mufflers. Then I tuned my s-afc and of course still didn't.
I bet if you added fuel you *could* but then again as far as I know more fuel makes you run cooler, so it wouldn't ignite as easier in the exhaust, right?

btw my ACV is off, and i shot flames before that, im gonna see if i can shoot some tonight
the only problem is if you run too rich ur car loses power.............when I had my SAFC for the first time(untuned) I could not shoot flames cuz it was too rich....and if you run too rich ur **** up the spark plugs which can lead to engine failure.

Oh yah that too, I had no emissions equipment at all, still no flames
Do a 1st 2nd pull and you should get flames hammer 1st, 2nd and as soon as your at redline completely let off and you should have flames. If not keep it at redline for a bit then let off you should, I've shot flames with my no main-cat but I can't always do it on demand

this post reminds me to ask a question ive been forgetting for a while:
im not really sure if i have an exhaust leak or if my car is shooting flames and i just cant see it cause im driving... whenever i let off the gas between 3k-2k rpm i hear a like 2 or three popping noises coming from the exhaust the only other time i hear it is when i shift at around 6k or above and then it is considerably louder.
i was thinking if it wasnt an exhaust leak that it could be that the original 17 year old cats are getting hot and lighting the unburnt fuel. which do you guys think it sounds more like, exhaust leak or unseem flames?
ps sorry for jackin your thread!

a lot of times the exhaust will pop on it's own, without emitting a flame, similar to a generic backfire almost. Just because it pops doesn't mean it's a flame. Most of the time the best (biggest) flames don't make any noise.
any way to not make it pop? cause its driving me nuts! plus i dont have the stock cat back on there... one muffler was missing from the car when i got it and the other.... well it should have been missing, took a whole 5 min to pull it off without tools. right now i just have a single ghetto muffler that the PO gave me...

Make sure your ACV is working, do a full tune-up, check your cats/etc. That should take care of it.
andrew: That was on my '87 stock port N/a on the stock ECU. You should see it now that it's turbo'd, my coworker claimed it was blowing so much flame that i caught my bumper on fire.

my 87 tII is stock accept for no cats and i shot flames the other night i was switching out of 2nd and my friend said he saw two blue flames come out of the back.. it didnt make a popping noise either.
I have emissions testing, I have no emissions equip or cats
For test day I put in the airpump and a high flow bonez cat, that's it. And I passed, yay. Airpump hooked straight to the cat, no acv, worked great, brought my HC's wayyyyyy down.

I was spitting flames well before then, mostly on accident. Generally, i use it as a safety precaution. Some stupid jackass gets too close to my bumper, and i scare them off.
