TX Shifter Spring Replacement

I'm getting ready to change the shifter spring on my 87 gtu because the shifter will not bounce back to neutral from first or second gear. All of the manuals I have do not have a process for this. If anyone has done this could you please guide me in the right direction? It would much appreciated. Thanks.

Pretty sure it requires removal of the tranny.

you can do it while its in the car its a pain in the *** and i would reccomend removing the tranny to make life easier. theres a side access plate on the transmission and another on the bottom, when u get the side plate off there is a little dowel pin you will have to drive out. i should have done a write up i still might but if u have any questions just ask

By the way,I looked to see if I could get the part out without "killing the damn Transmission".I got as far as taking all the bolts off the tails stock but couldn't find a way to get the Most important piece off and out of there.
The problem is the Roll pin on the Square block inside,it won't juts punch out.
I assume that the only way to get the pin out is to "easy out" the pin.Grab the pin by the inside with something threaded so you can pull the pin.It will not be accessable from the other side as there is no way to get to the pin because of the trans tail stock being in the way.
I hope someone can post an easier way to do this as it is a real Bitch to do.

you dont have to drop the tranny, but you also dont really need it. if you have the tranny out already, go for it. if not, id say leave it till the tranny comes out.

Jordan,

Here is a small write up someone did. There are pictures and instructions on how to do it without taking out the trans.
