Shifted By itself

As many of you know I just bought my '89 FC3C. I was reading alot of comments about redlining the motor (briefly) for cleaning purposes. Made sense to me, with the oil in the cylinders etc.

I placed the shifter in 1st and started from a redlight I was watching the tack build up. Just as it started to reach 7 (redline) and just half a second before I was going to shift the tranny shifted by itself.

Is this normal?? I haven't tried this again, I wanted to ask you guys.

John

the tranny shifted by itself? is it an auto and u had it in first? or did the manual transmission somehow put itself in 2nd?

and btw, rotaries don't have cylinders... hence rotary engine.

If it's an automatic, that's normal. Most newer (read, 80s & beyond) automatic transmissions will ignore your gear selection if the engine hits redline, or it will take it beyond redline to downshift. It's more of a "Use the lowest gear you can, use a lower gear than normal, normal" instead of "1, 2, D" or whatever it is.

If it's a manual? That's just screwed up. I sincerely hope you have an automatic.

It's all in good fun dude, don't take it personal.

You said cylinders on a rx-7 forum, what do you expect?

When I had my auto sev it did that exact same thing, rev to redline in first... bang.. backfire.. ba bang... and its in second gear hauling *** again

LOL!! Dude, calm the eff down, seriously. It was a joke, and wtf are you talking about verbal errors??? Pistons have pistons/cylinders, rotaries DONT, they have rotors...

Also, my comment was in good fun, joking, I wasn't trying to be a dick, but seriously, you don't have a piston. Now you know!

And good job going to a thread of mine to make fun of me calling something by the "improper name" that's so mature

Oh and when you rev to redline its best to look at the road and not the tach lol

j/k

Giving the engine some revs helps dislodge the carbon buildup in the apex-seal slots among other things, allowing them to move freely again.

Lol we do have a cylinder, Lol our cars are 1cyl. Lol if you take the engine and you look at it from the fan, its kind of like a ovalish cylinder with two triangles in it. Lol sorry....I've had a few drinks and Im tipsy, I'll probably regret this in the morning. Lol

Coming from a Honda expert, you're still an idiot.
