Depends on the car and modifications. My S4 NA didn't even begin to run out of poop until I hit 7300rpm with a header and full exhaust, whereas it had a drastically different powerband when it was stock.

I've asked this to myself a few times.. if the car is powerfull enough, isn't it faster to shift to 2nd gear before it reaches redline? it's so powerfull that it will gain speed faster with a higher gear even if it is at a lower rotation?
I don't think this is correct, but the only "powerfull" cars I have are automatic transmition

Track I shift at 7500 as recorded by my safc. Remember also the stock tach shows a little less than it really is too, so if you want to shift at redline (7k) then shift at about 7100 on the tach.

S4 7500 at least once a day. When I got the S-AFC tuned it hits peak power at 7k so to stay in the powerband I take it as close to fuel cut as possible. I think she likes going past redline anyway

Due to the wide numerical ratios, the transmission just doesn't like redline shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear.

I shift a little bit higher but there's this sweet spot right after 7k that if you can hit it will shift without grinding but you miss it plus or minus by 100 rpms and it's all hellish... 6500 and lower and you're almost sure not to grind... but you'll shift it out of the powerband probably. =/

i shift at 7600 coming out of first then 8500 from then on, which you only hit 3rd on the 1/8, no 1/4 mile tracks here...

I just let the revs die back down to the 6500 range after shifting out. Powershifting and saving .1 seconds on a 1/4 mile run just isn't worth a new tranny.

my car seems to have that sweet spot too.. 7200RPM indicated on the tach seems to just be perfect.
