Suspension specs

Hi I'm normally a 1st gen guy but I need some specs on the 2nd gen front end because one might find it's way into my car. Long story short it's a swap thats been attempted by very few people and only one or two have ever finished it. What I'm wondering is what people are running for caster in their track cars? Also I'd like to know what the maximum angle the wheels reach at the stops? I can't remember what that angle is called so feel free to correct me. I've searched and I can't seem to come up with these specs, any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Grant

I think maximum stock caster is about 5 to 6 degrees.
I dunno what the other "angle" you're talking about (camber?), but -1 degree negative camber is max on stock suspension.

Alright! Thanks for the info. I was looking for how far the wheels turn at full lock when you've got the steering hard over. Just trying to see how it compares to my 1st gen.

Full lock steering is about 35 to 40 degrees from straight front.
This angle is taken at full lock to the side you're measuring, so right side tire is full lock to right.

Cool, thats what I needed. Looks like it'll be a bit more than the 1st gen.

FC rack can be shimmed for about 5 degrees more angle.
You trying to build an SA drift car?

Thread resurection!
Nope not trying to build a drift car here, just attempting to make a better autoX car. I'm pretty much gonna be in a Mod class next year so I figured I might as well get rid of the super crappy 1st gen steering and front brakes.

P.S. Subframe may be bolted in by the end of the weekend.

Great idea!
A friend who retrofitted a Honda CRX rack & pinion into his 1G RX-7, and he claimed superior steering response and feel.
Good luck!

Really? How did he go about doing that? Any pics or a way to get some pics? I know a lot of the guys in the 1G forum would love to find a relatively simple swap for R&P. CPRacing makes a kit but the rack is no faster than the stock set-up and your turning circle actually gets slightly larger, no good for AutoX.

If you're looking for a superior cornering tac in an fc, I have a suggestion. I added camber bringing, my angle to 4degrees in front, 3.5 in the back and changed the toe angle. This is tricky because it causes oversteer and the tires squeal alot, but it corners like a beast. You'll have to tweak the toe to your own liking, but I loosened the rear stabilizer and bought higher grip tires, and fixed the tire squeal and oversteer.

well it's actually an FB with FC front end, and I do intend on running maximum camber I can with stovk components on the front; until I can afford some camber plates and then I'll be running about 2 degrees or so.
Grant

P.S. The subframe is inbut it needs about a 1" shim for the rear.
