she's sick
i just got my se7en running last weekend (i put a new clutch, pressure plate, and pilot bearing). i bought it that way, a few weeks ago. The exhaust is off right now because it fell apart when i took it off. im in the process of wire welding it right now. is that the only reason it is running poor? i understand it needs backpressure to run properly but it is accelerating poor and occassionly dies. it was sitting for about a year so im running all the bad gas out of it, and ive already replaced the sparkplugs and wires (ngk) and changed oil as usual. is there anything else i should replace or check?

Well let's see.. I'm assuming this is a second gen Seven we talking about ? (since we in the 2nd gen specific),,
I believe the 89-91 N/As aux ports open from the air pump.. Only the 86-88's open from exhaust backpressure....
Any case that should effect the engine until you get in the higher RPMs (3500+) ..
would be a good idea to get rid of that old gas... Drain the tank.. and pump some new gas in... let it idle for a bit to finish off the bad gas... TPS was a good idea someone mentioned... If you are having lumpy lumpy idle O2 sensor can be culprit.. for mine at least... And as always, Compression is important I check mine every week...

it is an 88 gtu. it only backfires with deceleration. and occasionally dies when i have put the clutch in to shift and it is in nuetral, unless i give 'er gas. "how do you drain the tank?" said the newbie. i know what a oxygen sensor does but how how do i check it. How do i know if it is bad? im getting the exhaust on tomorrow morning, so ill see if that helps any.
